Hi everyone!  My name is beatriz and im 37 and a mother of 3 teens.  I have struggled with my weight most of my adult life.  I have decided to go with the Sleeve over all the other options that were presented to me by my surgeon.  My insurance covers the surgery after completing the 6 months with the nutrtionist.  This month she told me to cut out sugar and liquid calories.  I go back in for a weigh in in 3 weeks.  I am so excited and can't wait for the 6 months to fly by!

Hi Beatriz -I just had the sleeve done 6 days ago and I am very glad I did. I choose this option after much research and thinking about it -it seemed like the right thing for me, because your normal anatomy is not changed as much, there is less dumping syndrome, and I could still take Advil later for my arthritic knees. I don't know about you, but the 6 months flew by because I also have 3 kids (although all grown, and I am becoming a grandmother any day now!) and I work fulltime, so my days are usually very busy. I have had very little pain and am off narcotics since day 4 -just liquid Tylenol now. The worst part was just feeling very bloated and puffy after, as though I was very pregnant and just had Thanksgiving dinner! I guess it's from all the gas and fluids inside. But almost a week later, it's mostly gone and I feel like myself again - I even drove myself to my doctor's appt.! (He told me I could as long as I was off narcotics.) My biggest problem now is being bored -I have not stayed home in years - and I'm a little bored with the liquid diet. I'm trying to vary it by eating/drinking lots of different kinds of protein shakes and putting unflavored protein into soups, etc. Also jello, popsicles, fudgsicles, pudding, Greek yogurt (everything sugar-free, of course), but I find I really miss crunching and chewing. At least I'm doing that with the vitamin supplements -ha ha! But all in all, it's been easier than I thought, and I'm excited to see the scale start to move downwards! (Almost 2 lbs each day!) Like you, I have been trying to lose weight my whole adult life, and even going to Zumba 3 times a week did not help. So this is really what I needed to get me to my goal of looking well and having more energy, off blood pressure meds, avoid diabetes, and less stress and pain on my knees! Good luck -you've made the right decision! My best advice is to do everything they tell you -all the workshops, dietician meetings, diet, etc. -it's all been shown to work and you have to be fully invested in it for you!

Welcome to our crazy OH family.  You will not regret your decision.  I am a little over a year out and I have lost 145lbs and have gone from a 24 pants to a size 10.  I have never enjoyed life more and you will be able to do the same with your children.  Keep us posted on your journey!

Hi Beatriz,

Pretty name. Welcome to the most awesome group on this forum. The sleevers are always posting and you will find so much info on here. Something I wish I had known early on is the Bookmark function at the top of the page. I use it all the time. Whenever I read something I know I will want to read again at a later time, I bookmark it and it is there always.

I am having my surgery in April and have learned so much from this great group of people.

Good luck in your journey. Best, Sharon

Welcome! I am 3 1/2 months out and have lost 55 pounds and I am 62! I was very frightened as the surgery day approached, but I have had no complications and it's been less difficult than I expected. That isn't to say it is easy - it's still a lot of work, a lot of tracking, dealing with stress and emotional eating, planning time for exercise, getting in the protein, water, and much more. But definitely a journey I am happy to be taking. Best of luck to you!

WELCOME!!

I;m not going to be sleeved until April, but one of the best things I did was find this forum!!

These people are the greatest! I also had to follow the 6 month supervised diet and exercise program and I have used the 6 months for research and education! I read this forum everyday and always learn something new and the "VETS" offer a lot of priceless wisdom!!!

Use these 6 months to find everything you can about WLS and the sleeve life after surgery!

This forum offers a lot of experience, strength and hope!
