Really? Average loss from month 3 to 6 is only 15 pounds?

Yesterday I met with the NUT and during the meeting she said the average loser can expect to lose 15 pounds between month three and six.  Seriously?  First time I head that.  I know it is not a race, but damn that would really bite if that happens.

For those a little farther out- is that what happend to you, or was your loss more substantial?  I have been averaging 15-20 pounds a month post-op and have a hard time wrapping my brain around such slow progress.

My surgeon told me that the heavier you are to begin with, the faster you'll lose in the beginning.

I'm not sure what the "average" is but it sure seems like the bypass folks loose a lot faster then we do.  I wanted the "safer" procedure though so I guess it's OK.

Yeah, but the long term statistics for EWL are about the same, and the VSG shows slightly lower numbers in the regain department. So in the long run, they might lose faster at the start but we all end up in about the same place.

well, your body does stabilize a bit so it is common to stall and even slow a bit, but I don't think 15lbs total in 3 months is accurate if you are working hard. I lost 18 in month 3 and so far 8 in month 4 with about a week to go.

month 5: -11lbs, month 6: -7lbs, ...all the way down. NOTE: after slacking I got back on track in Nov (month 12) and have lost 16lbs so far!

Could it be that people tend to get a little more comfortable with their sleeves by about month three, and therefore are more prone to getting less careful with what they are putting in their mouths? IMO it would make sense that there would still be plenty of restriction to support some weight loss, but that the loss would slow down if proper food and exercise guidelines are not being followed.

My husband lost 170 pounds in about 10 months. I don't remember months 3-6 in particular, but I do know that he didn't really slow down until month 9 or 10.

I agree with Carrie. I think if we are working hard, we are not necessarily bound to those averages.

My post was poorly written- it should relfect months 4, 5, and 6 has a total average of 15 pounds- so not including month three.  I have a few days to go, but I have lost 15 or 16 pounds in month three so far.

I honestly it all has to do with how much you weigh to begin with and where your weight is at month 4, 5 & 6. For me I was considered a light weight starting out, but I am now in month 5 and it is slow, but I am almost at goal. In addition to that, I believe it all depends how close to plan you stay, I didn't eat anything not on plan and exercised everyday. I still am on plan, only allow a small treat once in a while. I wouldn't worry, if you are doing what you should be the weight will come off.

Keep up the good work!
