X-Post: VSG, PPIs, Gluten, Iron Absorption - my research & experiment
VSG on 03/08/12
I am gluten free and feel so much better. I had all the testing done for Celiac Disease and the results came back negative (Biopsy included). I have Crohn's Disease thought and my Crohn's doctor says that can happen even when you do have it and that going gluten free can only help with the Crohn's and other issues. I will say, when I went gluten free, my sinus headaches were gone, my ears unplugged, my head was clearer all together... thinking and everything. It even helped with my anxiety and emotions. My joints felt better too. I would say I have some type of intolerance and if I want to feel the best I can feel, I stay away from gluten all together. There are so many gluten free options out there. Do your research and listen to your body. If you go gluten free for awhile and then eat gluten... you will know right away if you have an intolerance... just make note and pay attention. A couple times I thought I would go off the gluten free and convinced myself that I felt awful because I was getting a cold or allergies... but the truth was... as soon as I went gluten free again, I felt so much better.
Best wishes. I hope going gluten free helps with the iron levels!

Thank you for this info! I've been gluten free 10 days and feel fine, with perhaps some lessening of cravings, but that could also be a placebo effect. My plan is to continue for a month, try getting off of the Nexium by reducing frequency of dosage gradually - and once all of that is stable try eating some pizza or bread or something and see how I feel. Also will have iron tested again in a couple months. Will report back once I see how my experiment (N=1!) goes.
