First bikeride in over a decade and it was harder than I remember!

Beautiful day here in Metro Detroit, so I had the DH ready the bikes.  I went out planning on riding an hour, but only made it 35 minutes.  Mind you, that is 35 minutes more than I have done in the last decade combined- so yay!  We have some gentle hills in these parts and they kicked my butt.  My tall and heavy frame makes it so I cannot stand a bit to help up the hills, so i think I have a fantastic reason to buy a 29 inch frame bike.  I also have a new goal of riding 3 times a week to help develop tho bike muscles a bit, as clearly they are not being worked out from walking and the elliptical!

I hope everybody is having a great day!

I'd like to ride again -- I think you did GREAT by the way! That's a super start. Can you advise what kind of bike you have? I'm wondering if I need anything "special" at my weight. We have great walking and biking trails in my area. I think biking would be a bit more fun for a change of pace.

My current bike is a Schwinn 26 inch cruiser model- great bike for somebody who is a lot shorter than me.  I am 6'2'' and all legs.   I am going to get a 29 inch bike- I don't have to crumple up like a pretzal on it.  The reviews from people taller and heavier than me say that this size can handle the weight with one guy citing 350 as his weight.  Can't afford it at the moment, but it is on the list.  I also plan on biking trails at a local park, so i am switching to a mountain bike model or hybrid.  I will probably go with another Schwinn, as my current one is over 20 years old and still in awesome shape.

The current 26 inch Schwinn does just fine with my weight- I am at 252 at the moment.  When I was over 300 the tires were under some serious stress, hence I didn't bike for a long time.  I should probably also mention that I am not an avid biker, and do not know much about bikes.  If you have bike questions perhaps start a new topic and somebody more knowledgable can help you out.

I'll admit it- I was indeed a little nervous.  No problem getting it to go, but my turns are wide enough for little kids to openly mock me :)  Very steady though and not issue.  The old saying of "I'ts like riding a bike- you never forget how" is true.  Ordered me a bigger bike though- getting my fat tail up hills without being able to stand a little bit isn't working for me.  If I do stand, i am so freaking tall that my knees are above the handle bars, and so top heavy that I am pretty darn sure that I will topple over.  Nobody wants to see that!
