Still have my drain

So drove all the way to Bethesda today, to find out my 100.5 fever yesterday meant my surgeon wanted me to keep it in until Thursday!  I get it he's being conservative.  He's only had one leak in his career with sleeves but apparently it scared the crap out of him and he's uber conservative.  I'm trying not to be too bummed but I was REALLY looking forward to having that thing gone.  So how long did you guys get stuck with one, if you had it at all!

Can't wait to hear the answer to that one........I found out that I will have a drain, but I am not sure what the average length of time to have one is.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get yours out yet.

I didn't know I was leaving the hospital with a drain until after my surgery. So I was sleeved 3/21 and have to keep it in for a week. So Wed it will be removed. I can't wait. This thingy is super annoying. I feel 100% if it was not for the dang drain.

Mine was in for 14 days, I hated that sucker with every ounce of my being so I understand why you are frustrated. Hopefully it won't be too much longer for you!

My surgeon didn't use a drain - didn't have one while I was in the hospital and didn't come home with one.

Had my surgery 16 March, and they removed my drain 18 March. Was similar to a rubber glove, with bag over the end with a sticker to stick on me. It didn't really bother me, I didn't even really notice it with my clothes on, except when they came to check it.

Mine is nothing like that. It's a JP drain an is a long surgical tube attached to a plastic bulb. The bulb is pushed in to create suction. You have to empty it and keep track of the fluid. But the worst is what to do with the bulb. I tuck it into my underwear but it randomly sticks you or even worse you forget pull your pants down quick and the bulb jerks on your skin. Trust me it isn't fun.

I safety pinned mine to my waistband that way when I pulled my pants down, the excess tubing allowed it to drop without tugging.

I had mine in for a 4 weeks  or so if I remember correctly, but I had complications. And, if you've never had one removed, just remember to breathe through it all. I almost kicked my surgeon's assistant in the head, my leg kicked up out of reflex, and I almost passed out because I quit breathing while they were taking the two them out of me. I had one on each side. They removed them simultaneously. No matter what other say, that **** was the most unpleasant experience, and I had been through some major stuff with my revision. It didn't really hurt per se, but it was not a good feeling until it was over.
