It is normal. The surgeon needs to make sure of what is inside before operating.

Yep.  It's normal.  I actually was required to have an upper and lower GI scope.  During it, the discovered a hiatal hernia which my surgeon fixed during my sleeve operation.

Good luck!

had mine today, i am 6 days post op. Its not terrible , but the drink they give you is downright terrible. Its about 20 mins long, as they take pictures as you drink to make sure your not leaking from your sleeve.

Best of luck! Its a breeze minus the nasty tasty liquid.

the upper gi was the worst part of the whole sleeve process because of the barium. hold your nose and you will get through it. we've pretty much all had to do it.

i work in vet medicine and even the dogs spit it everywhere when we have to do tests.

the hoops we have to jump through! thats one of the reason i laugh when people say bariatrics are the easy way out. try drinking barium..and doing a liquid diet for a month.

Good Luck! My wife and I are having our GI Scopes done on 04-04-12 (Wednesday). I do not really know what to expect, but I am sure we will all do fine!
