Came home from the hospital this afternoon, but feeling very crappy.  My incisions are sore and my stomach hurts with constant gas pain. I walked and walked and walked while I was in the hospital but couldn't get more than a small burp out at a time. TMI ALERT!! I started having diarrhea yesterday which got more of the gas out, but I'm still soooo gassy.  Also I'm afraid to pull my port out and I'll have it until this wed or Thurs.

When does it get better???

Just needing some encouragement.

Each will get better! The first few days can be rough...have you tried gas x strips to help with the gas? The strips really helped me. You can do this...just keep walking, sipping and resting!

Every day does get better...I promise!  I had alot of gas pain up in my shoulder...and the thing that helped alot was a heating pad.  That thing was my best friend for days.

The best thing for gas pain is walking....so keep walking and sipping.

Soon this will all be a distant memory....

Keep your eye on the prize...a healthier and happier you!

I think the gas is always the worst! are you on clear liquids? did you do a clear liquid/liquid diet prior to surgery?
I hope you feel better soon! Please keep us posted.

I had my surgery on Wednesday also...I just keep walking and I'm using the Gas X strips, they do help...the barium swallow brings on that lovely diarrhea...also, as my doctor put it "liquids in, liquids out!"  I'm there with ya, we can do this!  Hang in there!

I was sleeved last Thursday and came home Sunday...Friday-Sunday were rough, but Monday was better than Sunday. And Tuesday was better than Monday. And...

It really will get better each day than the day before. I'm 8 days out now and feel *almost* ready to go back to work. Could probably work a half day, but would be exhausted by the time I got home haha.

Just move as much as you can (but don't push yourself!) and spend the rest of the time sleeping and sipping. Your body needs all three right now.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

I too had mine Wed and just came home today.  The gas does stink... Makes my chest tight.  What kind of port did you come home with?

I know how you feel. My body cavity ached so bad, throughout my whole chest and upper back for 7 days. Gasx didn't do much, and couldn't burp if my life depended on it. I only found some relief in walking slowly on my treadmill, while watching a movie, and a heating pad when not walking. I found small short walks around the hospital and house, didn't cut it, so walking for a straight hour or more was the only time I felt any relief. The first week was definitely the hardest. Once the drain is removed you should start feeling a bit better. It really adds to your discomfort. Hang in there, by the end of the second week you will almost feel like nothing even happened.
