Did anyone have plantar fasciitis before surgery? Did it get better after surgery?

I am an R.N., B.S.N., I also worked for an orthopedic surgeon. Unless there were no other options, I would NEVER have injections in my feet. I had plantars fascitis. It was aweful!!! One day as I was going to dinner with my friends, my feet hurt so bad I thought I couldn't go, mind you, every morning I could hardly walk. I am a nurse and I couldn't hardly walk in the morning. I went to a store and bought a pair of New Balance shoes. These may not do a thing for you, but within an hour I had relief. Withing in a week, I had NO pain.....since, I have had no pain. I don't think these shoes will cure everything, but I beleive proper shoes will help everyone. I have flat feet. I tried inserts from the ortho Dr. and everything..........just my experience. Hope it helps.

Thanks for posting!
Is there something dangerous about the injections? They hurt a little but nothing like the pain I feel on a constant basis so I'm not that deterred by the pain of the injection.
I went to a New Balance store and had someone actually measure my foot. He seemed very knowledgable about plantar fasciitis.
Did the inserts help you? Did you wear them with your shoes?

Yes, one of the main reasons I had this surgery, dr said I had to get the weight off fast. I probably.noticed the pain gone around two months post op. I had a flare up while on vacation last month for a few days where it was hard to walk again, I blame it on the flip flops. I could barely walk prior to surgery, my baby ran into the streets one day when I could barely move, I had no choice but to run, it was so painful. This was when I started to look hard at this surgery knowing I had to get the weight off fast, what I was doing was not fast enough.

I know what you mean--this last week has made me want the surgery EVEN MORE!! And I wasn't even thinking about it for this reason. But I'm at the point where I want it next week-lol! I have to wait until my insurance changes, though.
So the surgery won't be happening until after September 1st.
So the surgery won't be happening until after September 1st. I had physio and I have orthotics neither of them helped really, they helped temporarily but did not take the pain away fully. I am down 85 lbs and feeling great walking, the few painful days on vacation were probably because I didn't take proper foot wear with me, only so much room in a suitcase lol.
I'm answering a second time for a couple of different reasons. When I told my NUT that I was hoping this would "cure" my plantar fasciitis she just shook her head and smiled. She is a skinny little thing (in her 50s) and said that she had it once when she was in her 20s, and it flared up again a couple of years ago.
Both times she was wearing "bad" shoes. The first time, they didn't really fit and she wore them anyway because they were pretty, and was on her feet all day with no shoes to change into when they began to hurt. The second time was pretty much the same.
Shoes make a huge difference. Loosing weight will help but skinny people get this, too. Even athletes who are in top condition and low body fat get plantar fasciitis.
I'm glad to see that so many people have gotten relief by losing weight, but my family doctor told me, "You should never go barefoot again. You should never wear flip-flops. You have to wear shoes all the time, shoes with good support." Because he's got it, too, and he's not heavy, either.
And the only time I get flare ups now are when I go around barefoot or wear shoes without my orthotics in.
