A Big Dumb Lesson about cravings
VSG on 01/17/12
I feel as though I have been quite successful so far with my VSG. I have followed the dietary guidelines provided by my doc and NUT and I'm enjoying the change. I don't "miss" most foods like I feared I might. I can see the proof of my discipline and successful usage of my tool. Now that all that's out of the way: I was never a real ice cream lover before this surgery, but lately it calls to me. Of course I had a teenage daughter begging for a blizzard so I take her to DQ promising myself I wouldn't order ice cream. Of course I get a kids cone(chocolate dipped). I'm not upset about the calorie consumption because my consumption thus far that day was a cheese stick and a protein shake. What does upset me is how bad that ice cream HURT!! OMG it was like a brain freeze in my abdomen!! And of course, an upset stomach followed for about 2 hours after I ate the stupid cone(well, I didn't eat the cone actually, just the ice cream...and only half of it). This would be a dumb stunt and "lesson learned" situation if I hadn't snuck a bite or two of ice cream from my husband before. Same results every time!! I told him I am going to post a sign on the visor of my car: DON'T EAT ICE CREAM, STUPID! IT DOESN'T LIKE YOU!!
I find it interesting to crave a food I never wanted before that hurts so much I should be averse to it at this point. I curbed my other cravings through awareness, self control(surgical control too), and dietary rules, so why would I want to add a craving I never had before.
There really isn't a point to this other than some random rambling. I guess I never really took into account that after slaying my other craving demons that new ones might spring up. Yeah, like the title says BIG DUMB LESSON!!
Happy Hump Day to all!!

Ouch! I stocked up on chili before surgery, because I heard that blenderized chili was a good choice in the pureed stage. I've always liked chili, and the first time I tried it I was ill for hours afterward. I'm guessing the rest of the unopened cans are going to the food bank. I even think about chili now and my stomach clenches! Unfortunately we learn by trial and error.
