Time to Confess
Thanks so much!!! :) I actually met a guy who hated smoking. We eneded up falling in love (we're now married) and I stopped smoking. I don't think I would have ever stopped if it wasn't for him, it makes it so much easier if you're with someone that doesn't smoke. I wouldve never stopped otherwise.

Before surgery I just had all around bad eating habits. I tried to change one at a time. It seemed easy that way. I didn't want to have surgery and give up caffeine and all my bad habits at once. I wanted to do that before. Did I fail sometimes? Sure...but it didn't matter I just have to keep trying. I think it's the only way to beat obesity. You can't ever give up.
You're absolutely right and it's the same way I've approached this journey. I've tried hard to get rid of all my bad habits during my 6 month insurance mandated diet. Stopped sweets altogether, then changed from Pepsi to Diet Pepsi, then changed to water and crystal light. Now that I have my eating habits in a much better place I'm now tackling smoking and believe me it's hard because I want to eat to fill that time but by changing those habits first I won't let myself. The electronic cigarette has been my savior!! 11 days now without a cigarette but it's an hour by hour struggle.

I'm taking the same approach. Since we are stuck with the 6 month wait, we might as well make the most of it.
How did you stop the sweets altogether? I had no trouble dropping the carbonated beverages since I was really not that into them, but I have a TERRIBLE sweet tooth. I don't have my surgery until probably around the end of Sept. So I do have time. I really want to have cut sugar out of my diet as much as possible BEFORE surgery. I figure there is enough for my body to adjust to without also dealing the the sugar withdrawal.

You are right and the sooner we start, the better we are. I had to take baby steps and still do. Last May I decided to get serious about looking into VSG. I had entertained the idea for about 3 years, but just kept gaining weight. I decided in May to stop drinking carbonated beverages. It was not easy at all since I drank about 6 diet cokes a day. With my body aching all the time and not being able to control my blood pressure with many medications being switched out, I thought this might help. It was tough but by August I was used to not drinking them. It has been almost a year since I have drank a carbonated beverage and I don't miss them one bit. I often drin****d tea with Splenda, lemonade, or that calorie free flavoring for water. My family and co workers still have them all the time and I am just not even interested anymore. So by the time I had my surgery, carbonated drinks haven't even been an issure for me.

I was a regular Pepsi w extra ice junkie. I drank at least a 2 liter a day, then chips, and junk food.
I used my 6 month pre surgery time to wean off. I started drinking water and cut out all fast food.
