It didn't take me 2 months to put on 100lbs, i am NOT going to lose 100 lbs in that same amount of time.

Right after surgery they'll start telling you to walk-walk-walk and sip-sip-sip. But you won't have the capacity to sip-sip-sip enough to support all that walk-walk-walk and you're gonna end up feeling like you have the energy level of a blanket. So sip-sip-sip and walk-walk-walk anyway. It helps.

I trust my farts! So far so good! (knocks on wood) your taste buds might not change (I've read on here alot of people had this happen I wasn't expecting it too) I still hate the same foods I still have the urge to shank someone for a cookie your previous struggle will still be there when it rolls around on a platter.

We're all individuals, and even though most of us want to know as much as possible about what it is going to be like post-op, you won't really know till you get there.  Some wake up with no hunger and completely different taste buds.  Some come out exactly like they went in with the same cravings.  While there are hard fast ways to ensure you lose weight the way you manage your difficulties is for you and you alone.  I can talk to you till I'm blue in the face about what was/is a struggle for me and it will probably have nothing to do with what is a struggle for you.

Oh and I second the never trust a fart!

Don't buy much food type stuff before surgery.  I never ate jello (thankfully my kids do), or pudding, or 3 of the 4 protein mixes I have.  It's hard because most of us want to prepare (I'm a planner) but it's better left for after when you can see how things have changed or not.

Things you will need: a digital kitchen scale, measuring cups/spoons (tons of them), smaller plates

If you have seasonal allergies or just normal everyday allergies, get on a prescription allergy med NOW! If snot and/or drainage is part of your allergy woes it'll fill up your wee baby tummy lightening quick and make you nauseous and possibly unable to eat until you vomit that vile nastiness. Better to avoid it by taking meds!

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but that one was big for me.

Don't always believe everything you hear about the "3 week stall" ... I am 10 weeks out of surgery and haven't stalled yet.

There is only one success--to be able to spend your life in your own way.

Preapre for the haters. (Sorry to say it) because they pop up from nowhere. as in "Wow you look great! You were SO heavy before." (I know stupid, that's why I had the procedure.) Of course the "You took the easy way out" people. And my favorite "Every single person I now that had weight loss surgery gained ALL their weight back. They are just as big as ever!" (This is usually told to me by someone who has 50-100 lbs to lose. Just stay your course and move one.
I have a little trouble with my significant other who keeps asking me why I can't have rice, pasta, french fries, cookies, cake and bread and also keeps offering them to me. *sigh* BECAUSE I CHOOSE NOT TO!

1. You may notice you get cold/chilly easily.

2. You will continue to have head hunger and cravings.

These too are sarcastic but I mean them 100%.  Maybe I'm not a nice person but I've been holding these in for a while and Ruggie opened the door.........

1.  Take "before" pictures and measurements.  These will be great motivators later on.  Even though we fatties tend to avoid the camera, scales and measuring tapes, we will love them when we are "former fatties".

2.  Don't believe the misguided notion of the "6 month honeymoon phase".  Yes, this is the time when you will be able to eat less.  Yes, you are probably most motivated during the early stages.  Yes, your hunger will be less during this time.  However, don't freak out if you can eat more, have some hunger and have motivation issues after the first 6 months.  It's normal.  We've all experienced it (not all of us at the same phase in our journey but it happens.)  If you stay focused, stay on plan, track your intake, exercise and don't give up, you will continue to lose weight waaaayyyy past that 6 month mark.

3.  YOU WILL STALL.  There are very few people that don't.  Some stalls last for days, some maybe longer.  Just get back to basics.  Even when you don't lose pounds you may lose inches (See #1)

4.  When someone tells you that having WLS is "taking the easy way out",  b*tch slap them or kick them in the n*ts.  It counts as part of your cardio for the day    Seriously, think about what you will say because you will get someone, sometime in your journey that will spew this or some other type of stupidity.

5.  Your body is going to change.  Your pooping, your hormones, your taste buds, your moods, your shoe size, your attitude and more will go thru changes as your body shrinks.

6.  YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GO BALD FROM THE HAIR LOSS.  A few people that have pre-op thin hair or alopacia (spelling ?) get really thin or have bald spots but so far, I haven't seen anyone on here that went completely bald (unless they shaved their heads) from weight loss.  Take your vitamins, get your protein in and be patient.

7.  Your relationships will change.  Maybe for the good, maybe for the bad.  It may be subtle or drastic.  But change, in this journey is inevitable.

8.  The pre-op and early post op diet sucks.  You are not going to die.  Suck it up buttercup and just do it.  It's only for a finite amount of time and in the timeline that is your life, it's a blip on the screen.

9.  You will eventually poop or the diarrhea will stop.  Again, never seen a post about someone exploding from contipation or pooping themselves to death.  If it continues, see your doc.  C diff infections aside, most bowel issues work themselves out (pun intended).

10.  If you think you will be one of those people that's trying to eat cheeseburgers or pizza 10 days after surgery, crying at 2 weeks because you can't have a beer or think that you can eat the same foods only in smaller amounts, don't have WLS surgery.  Have brain surgery.  You need that more.

11.  If your surgery date is fast approaching and you are freaking out, good for you.  That's a normal reaction.  I think we have all been there.  If you don't freak out, you are incredibly zen or need to share the drugs you are taking cause you have a special outlook.  Or you are crazy.  Take your pick.

12.  Sometime in your journey, every protein shake ever made will make you want to .  Just do it.  Suck it up, suck it down and move on.  It will be better later or you'll find one that works when your tastes change again.

13.  Venting is welcome.  Whining is not.

14.  Loose skin will happen to you.  Some have it worse than others.  For lucky people, they have minimal amounts that tighten up slightly over time.  Others work their asses off in the gym and get great results,  Some get it whacked off.  If you can't afford PS or think it will be a game changer, don't get WLS.  It's normal for it to mess with your head, your self esteem and your confidence.  However, you need to be prepared for the "what if" of looking like a Shar-pei puppy or a melting candle.  It's your decision---sagging, thin, possibly happy and healthy or fat, tight, miserable and unhealthy (or dead).

15.  If you are planning on surgery, research, reasearch, research.  This is not a decision to make lightly.  It's ok to ask for recommendations but take that info and research it to death.  Become obcessed until you get the answers you need for YOU!

End of rant.

Amen
