Sleep?

I'm sorry but this just doesn't seem right. I can see if you've had addiction problems in the past or some issues with pain meds, but if that's not the case why in the world would a surgeon cut you open, prescribe you pain meds, then not let you take them??

Plus you mention you can't take the anti anxiety or sleeping pills while taking the pain meds but you said you aren't taking pain meds?

That is just crazy!

FWIW, I slept in the recliner for about 4 weeks, I was able to sort of get on my side and hug a pillow and slept pretty well. Then again I was able to take pain meds.

I'm really sorry, this sounds inhumane!!

It is pretty crazy. I actually do have an addiction history, not with pain meds but with other drugs so that may be where the doc is coming from. I haven't been able to take the anti anxiety or sleep meds because I have been trying each day not to take the pain meds but end up breaking down toward the end of the day and taking them. The pain at night seems to be the worst.

So far I have not taken any today, so if I can manage to not take any for the rest of the night I can start reintroducing the other meds. That's my goal anyway, then maybe at least I can get a good night's sleep on the recliner!

I bet you'll feel better in the next few days if you can get to where you can take those sleeping pills and antianxiety meds.  Sleep can work wonders!

It helped me to sleep when I moved back into my bedroom and slept. I used a giant pillow and several regular pillows to allow me to sleep sitting up. You body needs the rest. I had to get prescirbed Ambian to sleep because after surgery we have a harder time. I think for most who have a drug addiction might abuse the pain medication as well since they are a narcotic and addictive. You probably hurt more when trying to go to sleep because your just lying here thinking about nothing but the pain your in. Good luck to you, hope you get some rest soon.
