Insomnia?

Sorry to spam the forum.  This is my last question today, I hope!

The first couple of nights I didn't sleep well because of discomfort, every time I needed to move.  Then my incisions all broke out in rashes (allergic reaction) and the itching was so horrible that I took Benadryl AND an ambien before going to bed each night, assuming that if I was sound asleep I wouldn't be scratching or rubbing.  And that actually worked.

Last night was my first night without much itching and I decided not to take the Ambien.  Instead, I just lay there for an hour and a half without sleeping.  Changing positions, whatever.  I finally got up and went to read for awhile.  The rain started and I thought, okay, enough of this, and took a Benadryl and went back to bed.

Even then, I simply listened to the rain for a very long time.  Eventually went to sleep but work up around 5:30 and couldn't get back to sleep.

I went through this for quite awhile after my hysterectomy but it's a noted side effect of that procedure.  I eventually got back on track with melatonin.  But the melatonin pills are BIG so I can't take them, and I'm afraid of getting hooked on the Ambien.

I'll be seeing my doc tomorrow and will ask, but I just wondered, does anybody else have this prob?  I thought was supposed to have trouble with energy and staying awake, but I haven't been napping, have been taking it easy but haven't been excessively tired or anything.  I'm also getting in all my protein and fluids.

I've been having the same issue, although probably for different reasons. I have had a lot of pain and discomfort, so haven't been able to sleep in bed. I also take a lot of sleep meds, and just started re-introducing them last night. I got pretty frustrated because I though after having been off sleep meds for over a week, I would sleep at least 6 hours. Didn't happen though, I feel your pain!

I need to check out various types of melatonin.  The ones I took before were large but maybe some aren't.

Good luck with your sleep.  It's so frustrating!!!  Plus, our bodies need sleep to heal.

There are some liquid sleep aids.  I use them on occasion.

Maybe try a sleepy time tea?

I love my ambien. I've come to terms with the fact that I might be on it all my life and I'd rather do that than not sleep. I obsess over everything and will just lie awake worrying and planning etc. Replanning then the next day when things don't go as I planned, steer clear lol.

There are nights when I'm really exhausted that I don't take it and I actually hope to get so much exercise soon that I'm not needing ambien but, either way, I'll just take my sleep aid.

I feel for you. I never had a sleep problem until right around 3 weeks out. Went to the dr. and got ambien and it worked wonders. After a while I was back into my regular pattern of sleeping. Want tokeep someof that ambien around in case it happens again. It will get better.
