3 Month Check-In (with pics!)
So here I am, 3 months post-op. The only word I can use to describe my VSG journey so far is blessed. Thankfully, I've had no complications, and no psychological or emotional stresses. I hit one stall, the 3 week post-op pit of despair that lasted three dreadful weeks, but it passed and I've averaged 3-4 lbs weekly overall.
Weight stats: my highest weight ever was 475 (woah, yes). This was in 2004 and I lost over 137 lbs on my own. When it became hard to lose weight on my own and I first saw a surgeon, I was 348 lbs. Surgery weight was 329. With surgery alone, I am down 52 lbs in 3 months and feeling great! This is the smallest I've been since......I can't remember lol. Yes, this certainly has been a journey and it continues...
The food: I've never had so much meat in my life! Chicken, turkey, sandwich meat, turkey franks and sausages, and eggs up the wazoo. I used to say that my problem was that I ate too much of healthy foods, but in reality I was packing in the carbs with the wheat crackers, whole-grain everything, lots of salads with such little nutritional value, etc. If I knew then what I know now...but I wouldn’t trade my sleeve in for anything. I respect the restriction and for the most part undereat my sleeve. Water is a nifty trick: I see a 5-6 lb weekly loss when I really work on drinking tha****er! Currently, I can drink up to 80 oz a day.
Activity: I just realized from looking at my current picture that I'm starting to look like Tan Mom, haha. Yes, I've been out in the sun a lot lately because I walk on breaks at work. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week, and if I don't I find some kind of activity that I can break a sweat on, like dancing! Lately, I've taken up yoga and I'm enjoying it very much. I've learned that you have to be adventurous with activity, and push yourself to try new things.
See you again at 6 months!
