Prilosec, Pepcid AC?

My instructions from the hospital told me to start taking Pepcid.  It didn't say anything about extra doses, doubling up, anything.  I see most people take Prilosec.  So I'm just curious--what do you take and how much?

Is the only reason to take it for discomfort or does it serve another purpose?  I haven't been taking it.  I'd forgotten all about it, to tell you the truth.

I take 2-20 mg Prilosec every day.  My surgeon told me to to take them together, but I understand that some doctors have you take one in the morning and one in the evening.

My understanding is that it is prescribed to keep acid reflux at a minimum.  I know sometimes early out acid can feel like hunger and it helps with that.  I'm also guessing acid in a not yet healed tummy wouldn't be too pleasant either.

The protocol from my doc was to take pepcid ac for a few months after surgery.  Your stomach will continue to produce (and over-produce) acid.  Acid in your stomach can feel like hunger, even if it doesn't feel like heartburn.  If you're not having any issues not taking it, you're fine.  But if you start feeling "hungry," try popping a pepcid for a few days and see if that makes it better.

I take one prilosec (actually the Sam's club generic version since it's like $10 cheaper) every morning since I've had my surgery. I find that if I don't that my food almost feels like it is stuck in my stomach or throat and makes my tummy feel very uncomfortable if I don't take it so I just work it into my routine.

In addition to any acid, I was told by my doc that it creates a protective coating on the stomach.  I was given a 2 month Rx for them and that do that for everyone, heartburn or not.

Even though I didn't have any reflux after surgery my doctor's instructions were to take prilosec in the morning and one in the evening.  Helps your new stomach with the acid and healing.
