Question for those Who Question Calories/Plan

so it sounds like everyone stays in the 600-800 range when trying to loose and that my NUT is wrong for telling me to do 900-1000 to get out of starvation mode and loose? I was doing good at the 800-900 range this whole time (slow, but good) but last month I've stalled and I did loose few lbs when I increased calories but stalled again! I just want to reach goal and it seems like everyone says something different! What are you guys eating all day to be fine at 600 calories? I think I would be hungry at that range and I don't know if I can stomach any more shakes.

Frisco,
You (and some of the other vets) have helped me immensely in the short time I have been on OH. I need the no-nonsense, slap-me-in-the-head approach!!! I have been losing slowly but surely, but need to tighten up my regime. Thanks for taking the time- it is much appreciated!

When I first came on the board as a newbie I was so glad to have Frisco say it like it is. My surgeon was a little more vague with the nutrition plan and I decided to follow the advice of Frisco and the others who were successful. I am very close to goal and have totally changed my eating behaviors too. I stick to close to 800, occasionally a bit over. I have been trying to get in 100 grams of protein because I have plastic surgery in less than a week, so I have been more around 900 for a couple days. Once I'm past the plastics, it's back to 600-800 until I am done. Thanks to you Frisco I know I will reach goal, I have needed to hear the truth over this past year. If people don't want support to achieve their goal weight, then why are they even here?

I just looked back through my food logs.  The first months were under 500 calories, then stayed under 800 until after month 9.  Months 9-11 I ate more like 900 with a few days (darn holidays) at around 1000.   Problem was that I was still at 168 when I hit my one year.  I had to pull the calories and carbs way back down again (carbs 20-30) to dump those last pounds.  Wasn't easy, but possible.

I  have always exercised at least 1 hour a day, during months 4-6 exercised 2-3 hours a day.

My plan never gave me calories, carbs, protein goals. They just said measure food, eat three times a day and no protein bars or shakes.

During month 6 I was put on thyroid meds.

I wish that I knew more when i started this journey because I don't think the plan guidance that I got was sound enough 'for me'. It might be perfect for others.

I would love to shed another five pounds.  I'm eating in the 1000 range now with somedays as high as 1100.   I walk at least 4 miles a day, do weights for my arms and back, and do intensive 5.5 hill hikes 3-4x a week.   Any sound suggestions considered.  ;)

I think it depends on if you're working out/cardio, etc. I try to NET 700-800 per day. Some days are better than others. I also find that if I get stuck, I jam up my calories and hit some carbs and it will sometimes get going, but I've slowed down. I'm good with that.

Since my neck injury and ongoing recovery, it's been harder because working out has changed/slowed down, but I'm still fighting the good fight

Not everyone fits into the box, as we've discussed before. My doctor doesn't tell you to limit carbs but I do because carbs make my head hunger monster come out.

Do what works for you.

As far as why people stay and why people go. I think some people leave because life gets in the way. I know I don't check in here every day anymore. I have things going on a lot more now - things I never dreamed of doing (like taking a Segway tour of the city later this Summer!). I don't think it's fair to insinuate that people disappear because they "fail".

I think having a support network is important though... and I think that will make you most successful. I WILL say that I think that nowadays my support mostly comes from my in-person support group we have built here in Austin. I need that face-to-face time and there's enough of us that come farther out that I don't feel like I'm constantly answering the same newbie questions over and over and over again. LOL

Having said that, I don't necessarily disagree but I believe everyone's body is different and not everyone needs the same plan.
