Do you have a plan to help you perk up the motivation during weight loss?

Just curious.  I am a teacher and I have been preparing for the summer months, less structure, and more access to poor choices.  Recently I decided to invest in a Fitbit for the DH and i along with the scale that syncs all of the info automatically.  It was pricey, but I am hoping the novelty will help to spur continued good choices.  The beginning of anything is always ripe with motivation for me, and I know from experience that in order for me to stay on a long term project I need to consider ways to help infuse some novelty into the process.

What do others do out there?

Hi Happy teacher!  I am also a teacher and concerned about staying on track over the summer!  I'm planning on using My Fitness Pal on my smartphone to track my calories and exercise.  It helps to keep me motivated because I know I will have to enter EVERYTHING!  It tracks the entire week for you.  I also like the feature that tells you how many calories are in the menu items at chain restaurants, and you can scan the UPC code on grocery items to find exact calories for your serving size.

I might check into the fitbit also!  I might need some novelty as well!!!

Didn't realize you could scan upc codes- I will have to look for that!

I wish I had a magic answer...I could use one.
I have 7 pounds to go...yeah just 7!
But my motivation is like 0 (sigh)

I talk a good game, I wake up wanting and trying but by 8 pm...I'm not so good (big sigh)

I haven't gained any weight but really? It's a matter of time with this attitude.

I need something to motivate me.

I have the fitbit but forget to put it on in the morning.
I want to get the scale but havent done so yet.

Igf anybody has any ideas....bring it!

When I started struggling I put myself back on the preop diet- 3 shakes, 1 light meal, and for a set 2 week period.  I found I can do most anything for 2 weeks.  It broke the stall.  Would something like that help you?

For me to get and stay motivated I usually enlist about 4-5 other ladies to work out with. If I make the commitment to meet them I know I won't back out or find excuses not to go. It's very helpful and gives me a chance to catch up with friends!

I can't say enough for planning and having a schedule. For me, planning out my menus makes me excited for what I'm eating and keeps me from eating things that I shouldn't. Maybe you could attempt some new or more difficult recipes with the extra time you'll have over the summer?

And I always feel better in general when I live on a schedule, but it also gives me a timeframe of when I need to eat as opposed to when I want to eat. And when I'm hungry but it's not time to eat, I can say, "I only have x-amount of time until its time to eat."

Don't know how much that helps but I hope you find what works for you.

I need a lot of structure in my life as well, and I'm a bit of a gadget-head, so I'd be tempted.  Let us know how it goes!

But beyond all the novelty, what really helps me get my "mojo" back is talking to people that are new in the process, that might have questions or need help.  It helps me remember there is a way out from the bondage of food, and that we need each other to get better.  And that if I don't stay on top of the monkey, it wil be running my life again.

And when I'm struggling, I reach out for help, usually privately because I have a lot of false pride and fear of looking stupid.  But those two things really, really help.

To play off of the planning idea, what if you started a photo blog. Tried all those new recipes and tried to make them look pretty? I know we have other blogs we frequent but there is something to be sad about something that is yours :)
