Unjury Unflavored Protein Powder rocks! (If you hate it, say it here.)

I said this once before, and now I'm seeing people who don't like it.  So I thought I'd explain how I use it.

Several people have mentioned mixing it in water.  I never even dreamed of such a thing. The idea of it sounds ick.

I mix it in things I want to justify eating.

Soup, with powder, becomes high protein.  That helped me meet my protein goals during the full liquid stage.

When it came to mushies, I mixed in lots of stuff.  Refried beans are high calorie and I have given up on them, but when I was eating them, I mixed in protein powder and they became super-packed, since they already had protein.  Applesauce looked kind of gross with it--white-ish and cloudy--but it still tasted great, and now was a protein meal.

Today has been one of my best days for getting in all 80 grams of protein and under 800 calories.  (Day isn't over yet but I only need 8 more and I have 209 calories to go--piece of cake.) And I started off my day with...

Cereal.  Yes, I couldn't believe it when I decided to try it, but it worked.  One serving of cereal was 120 calories.  I measured it out (3/4 cup) and then put it on my scale.  Once I saw what it weighed I kept taking flakes out until I had 1/2 serving: 60 calories.  I then poured 1/3 cup milk and added 1/2 scoop of protein powder and stirred, and poured it over, and finally sprinkled frozen blueberries over it all.  I ended up with a very small but crunchy bowl of cereal with delicious cold frozen blueberries (love them that way) and it was under 150 calories with 14 grams of protein.  Was it the very best calorie-to-protein I could do? Probably not, but it hit the spot, gave me what I wanted, and got me off to a good protein start.

I did have a chocolate protein shake late afternoon to give me another boost.

Tonight for dinner I had green beans.  I know that sounds weird but I love them.  The place I got them from seasons them so well.  So I took the juice, added 1/2 a scoop of protein powder (again it made it kind of weird/gross looking but I don't care because it still tasted delicious) and added my green beans and ate.  Also had an ounce of pot roast.

In other words, I add protein powder to things that have their own flavor.  And I don't notice any difference.  And I get to eat what I want.

Oh! I even added it to ground lamb that I had seasoned with tomatoes and seasonings for moussaka a few weeks ago, and then froze for now, when I knew something soft and easy and delicious would be needed.

Okay, so have you used unflavored protein in stuff and not liked it?  Let's get both sides!

Thank you for sharing your tips.  I have a container sitting on my counter that hasn't even been opened.  Honestly, the thought of it makes me feel sick.  LOL.  I am only 9 days post op and still on full liquids and struggling, struggling to get all my protein and water in.   I am so sick of shakes I could puke!  I am going to have to try it in some soup.  I can only eat 1/3 of a cup (over about 40 min reheated a few times...lol) so would I want to add only half a scoop?  I don't want to taste the powder.  LOL

Remember that the soup can't be over 130 degrees (which is hot enough to eat) or the powder won't mix well.  The powder is VERY light.  When you dump it in it will look like so much that you can't imagine it will even stir into the liquid but it does.

Try it.  If you don't like it, what have you lost?  1/3 cup soup.  :-)

I am a purist I guess. I just put it in water and drink it:) I get 80 grams easy and I live on fish and chicken but the first year is the hardest and the new start so I just do what I gotta do to learn how to make the best choices for me:).  I LOVE Unjury!!!!!I just want to get all the protein I can. I am a carb freak so I try to keep them low and since I am only 4 weeks out it is not hard:) but I think I won't be able to ever have any of the carbs I used to though but that is ok!!!

I like to add this extra unflavored whey protein powder I got from Sprouts (kind of like Whole Foods, but cheaper) to my greek yogurt and chocolate protein shakes. The shake powder (Pure Protein) itself has 25g of protein. The extra whey powder I add is an extra 9g. Then I use a special milk (Mootopia -- I'm not sure if it's just a local thing or if it's nationwide) that has 12g of protein per serving.

I also add the extra protein powder to my greek yogurt (with sugar free/seedless raspberry preserves and a tsp of SF raspberry Torani syrup).

I've also added it to my homemade marinara sauce.

The extra protein does tend to clump a little, but I don't mind!

I still use unflavored unjury everyday. I used to mix it with watered down crystal lite lemonade. For the past 6 months I make my afternoon pick-me-up with unjury unflavored:

2 dbl shots espresso - place in freezer till cold and frosty
mix 1 scoop unjury with 4 to 5 ounces almond milk and add to cold espresso
Take to work and enjoy around 2:00 in the afternoon, yummy!
Still enjoy it everyday!
