Hair Loss!
Unfortunately nothing helps. Not biotin, not special shampoos, nothing. However, thickening shampoos may make your hair appear thicker.
The hairs that are falling out now started dying about three months ago. It is what it is. But the good news is, it'll stop eventually and start growing back. Mine lasted from about 3 mos out to about 7 mos.
I went to a very short hairstyle and started using a shake-on colored powder called Toppik to disguise the barest spots on my scalp. It's available from Amazon, and if you get the right color people can't tell you're using it. I got that tip from a successful post-op I happened to sit next to at an OH conference about a year before my surgery, and it was one of the best tips I got.
My hair was thin before surgery and, even though it's grown back, it returned to its original thin state, so I still use the Toppik. The best price is on Amazon, although you can find it at Sally's Beauty Supply.

Are you getting a lot of protein or taking Biotin? I am taking Biotin and getting no less tan 80mg of protein a day to hopefully ward off this side effect. My hair is so horribly thin to begin with, I can't afford to lose too much. I am 120 days out as of today and hope my hair stays we're it should.
A friend of mine who lost a LOT of hair from her already thin hair after gastric bypass started putting eye shadow on her scalp that matched the color of her hair. I know that sounds ridiculous but it worked wonders!! I couldn't even tell. I'm horrified of mine falling out. I'm a month out and worry about it constantly. Good luck to you!!
My dermatologist said the only thing that one can do is use Rogaine, and he did recommend that. Thank you for the tip, Kathy. I would like to try it. I'm only 8 weeks out, and I can see the hair loss in my bangs area, sigh.

Here's the issue with Rogaine. You have to keep using it for it to work, and if you stop, your hair goes to the level it would have been if you'd never started.
I used Rogaine for probably 10 years, as my hair started to thin kinda early. It was the kind you apply with a dropper, a liquid, twice a day. But then after those 10 years or so I noticed that my scalp was getting a "numbness" that wasn't really numb but kinda achy/sensitive, so I quit the Rogaine. That was around three years ago. My scalp has slowly returned close to normal but not 100%. I'm not sure if it was the Rogaine itself, or the fluid it was suspended in.
I think they now have it in a different formulation (a spray? can't remember), so your experience may be different.

my doctor told me to increase my protein. Ive been getting 100 to 125 gs a day and the hair loss is slower but still bad. I started washing it about every 3 days instead of every other day to try and slow it down. I got tired of cleaning out the shower drain cover. It was depressing. Now I'm sort of over it. I have hair to spare still though I am considering cutting it. It's nearly to my waist and looking stringy.
