So I've been trying desperately to stick to the 600-800 under 40g a day.  But I have to ask how many of you who followed this worked out heavily 5-6 days a week from this early out.  My body is SCREAMING for carbs.  And I don't mean "bad" carbs I mean milk, beans etc.  I find the last few days when I've let my carbs creep up to 50-60g (vegies, milk and beans are the source) I don't feel as dead after workouts and it even looks like I"m up for a 4-5lbs loss this week too.  My calories still stay way below the 800 mark, usually 650-700 and my protein hovering in the 70g mark.

I totally here that the low carb thing has the best results.  Which is why I'm trying to hard, but now I feel like a failure. I don't want to rationalize myself into more carbs but I also can't ignore how I"m feeling.  I just can't seem to keep it at that level and exercise to the level I want.  So I thought I'd question those of you who do follow that plan.  At 8 weeks out how much were you exercising?

Here's my exercise routine right now:
Monday - cross train (usually P90X Ply burns aprox 600 calories)
Tuesday - 3 mile run
Wed - weight training (free weights and kettlebell)
Thurs - 3 mile run - with sprints
Friday - rest
Sat - Cross train
Sunday - 4-5 mile run.

My trainer, Greg, recommends good carbs after a weight training workout session.  Not sure about running...I'm not there yet. (also - not sure I'm lower carb though - I shoot for 40-60 per day)

No suggestion since I'm no where near that or a VET LOL But..... How did you work yourself up to all that?? I have a hurt foot (thinking its a bone spur) so I cant really exercise right now. Do you have any suggestion for me of what exercise I can do being that I cant really walk? Good Luck and nice job on the Workouts!

Wow u have a god work out routine. I'm still pre- op and I'm hoping that I can run more than 1/2 a block. Now I walk and jog.. I do set up small goals lie I will walk by 4 homes then jog by 2 homes and switch it up... I think u have to gradual build yourself up o doing a straight run..

Well I did exercise before surgery a fair bit just not to that intensity.  The last 20lbs has made a world of difference in my ability to train harder.  I figure as I continue to lose weight it will continue to get easier.

I agree with the above poster, recombent (sp?) bike and swimming or even "walking" in the shallow end of the pool, are great ways to exercise.

I do want to put out there, that I am prior military and was a lower starting weight, I REALLY don't want people to look at that schedule and think that they aren't doing as well or something.

Thanks so much for the compliment!  For me I find exercising to be my linchpin, it's what helps me deal with the stress of life now that I don't have food to fall back on.  I think each person needs to find that to really make it a successful journey.  Just remember as you start out a mile walk may be it for you.  Then after a week try to do it a bit faster.  You will find as the weight comes off pushing yourself becomes easier.

I dont think I'm a vet and I hate to put this out there... but high protein low carb diets can cause issues with kidney stones in the long run.  I have had several friends and people from my support group that have had issues with kidney stones after an extended period of time doing high protein super low carb diets.  high protein low carb is great for short periods of time. And do not push too much protein in at one time, spread it out during the dayl  I did a little research, we need carbs for brain function and muscle recovery as much as we need protein. I am not talking right out of surgery to start eating tons of carbs but in moderation I think they are fine. I do mean good carbs and not starchy or refined sugar carbs.  I think you should do what works for you. As long as it is not slowing your weight loss. You are very active and doing great.

Hi Beth!

See this raises questions from me....I completely agree with the statement of us needing carbs too....but I also agree that during the losing phase we need to stay under the 40g ....sooooo
what I am anxious to hear from the vets is:
1. how long is too long on lower carbs? what about a s l o w loser?
2. during the losing phase, did you ever experience what the OP is experiencing and what did you do?
3. Is it ok to up the carb level (good sources only!) for a short time...like maybe 1 day a week by maybe 10-15 g?

I am so looking forward to seeing responses here...thanks and sorry hrford.....dont mean to sorta hijack here.....
