I HATE CIGNA!--denied?!

I'm beyond frustrated. I seriously workedso hard to get to this point--I submitted everything and should never be denied. They denied me based on the fact that I need a medical evaluation/clearance for surgery. My PCP (who I saw for my 6 month diet) already sent in a letter recommending me for surgery. I'm so confused and frustrated!!

Kfrain:

Write! Call you PCP and Surgeon, I was denied by BCBS of FLA, but my surgeon wrote a letter as well as my PCP recommending me for the procedure and how I have a date.  It's the end of June instead of April, when my six month diet ended, but it was worth the extra effort.

Good Luck!

They might be wanting a physical done. Inwould call Cigna and get specifically what they need from your physician.

unfortunatelly is all about the money and them not wanting to pay!  Hang in there, do what you need to, don't give up is what they want.  They will eventually have to approve it if you do everything they ask.  Good luck! (My insurance had a complete exclusion on the surgery so I had to pay cash myself, so trust me it could be worse)

It is possible they are trying to discourage you.  As an example, they could have data that shows that 2% of the people they delay decide to not have the surgery.

Just like their 6 month managed weight loss requirement, even in their own literature they reference some studies that suggest that the 6 month wait does nothing to improve outcomes or safety of the surgery.

I had Cigna for about a month.  I remember having to make appointments with my PCP just to have him walk in and tell me I needed to see another doctor, which I knew already.  How cost effective and efficient is that.

Ugh.

Don't give up.  Fight them every step of the way, go through the formal appeals process and get your surgeon involved.

Good luck.

I have CIGNA and I was originally denied due to lack of records of my obesity and them just overall saying that they didn't think I needed surgery. My surgeon wrote a personal letter to the insurance people and I was approved a week later. Now I'm scheduled for July 12 :)

Keep trying. Insurance policies change all the time. I have Cigna and the other day when I went for my 5th month appointment, I found out that Cigna changed their waiting time policy from 6 months to 3 months. Don't give up.
