OK as someone who works in the food industry I can see how you would defend your job, business or lifestyle. It still does not negate the facts. And yes my core message was lost on you because of your bias. I am not ignorant. I am informed. The food industry is in business to make a profit not to look out for the health and safety of their customers. They only do that when government regulations make them or when they lose money because they hurt people. If it cost less and there will not be a consequence then they will and do (sometimes) have practices that are unsafe to their consumer and/or their workers.  Look at history. Look at all these products that have tried to promote things such as low fat and then the dump tons of sugar in the product to make it taste more appealing. Look at chemicals that they knew were unsafe and used them anyway until regulated to do otherwise. Look at E. coli outbreaks caused by unsafe slaughterhouse practices. Look at how beef cows are fed chicken feces, wood chips, ground up animals, etc... and then we wonder why there are more outbreaks of salmonella and people getting parasites. Excuse me but if you were more informed (maybe take a few college classes regarding the environment etc... )  maybe you would not be working for the food industry.
I CHOSE to work in the food industry to make a difference.  I study foodborne illness outbreaks for a living so I can help prevent them.  I've been in food plants, slaughterhouses and farms.  I've seen quite a bit.  I'd like to think that we've learned about how to make things better.

Do you know why E. coli happens?  I studied it for years.  I looked at the who, what, where, when and why to understand it better.  Have you?

So if I am biased, then what are you?  Why are you so hell bent on being biased the other way?  What experiences besides some documentaries do you have to back up YOUR bias?

I completely disagree that the food industry is not looking out for the health and safety of their consumers.  They wouldn't stay in business if that were the case.  Are there some "bad guys" out there?  Sure, every industry has their "bad guys."  But there are many many more that are making a difference in a good way.

Do you grow or make or raise all of your own food?  If not, then why would you trust ANYONE in the food industry?

You say: "Excuse me but if you were more informed (maybe take a few college classes regarding the environment etc... )  maybe you would not be working for the food industry."  So, let me get this straight, you'd rather have informed or uneducated people working for the food industry?  Sorry, but I call bull****  You know that you've run into someone more informed on this issue than you and you got defensive.  I find it rather humorous that your argument doesn't make sense.

My block button will be next... shoot, maybe I should have already used it.

If you really want to get grossed out by food, look into the long-term effects of the trash floating around in the oceans. All plastics in the ocean can't biodegrade but they can break down into microscopic versions of themselves. When that happens it's really hard for the tiny fish at the beginning of the food chain to tell the difference between the plastics and the stuff they normally eat. They are, in turn eaten by bigger fish and so on until we eat the Salmon and Tuna and Crab etc.

Or how about gluten intolerances. 50 years ago wheat had like 14 (don't remember the exact number) components. Now, after we engineer it to only take the best wheat, it has 60 components (again don't remember the exact number) and wheat and gluten intolerances go crazy.

Here's the thing. My life with a 12 and 14 yo has some fast food in it. I knew this going into surgery. I got online and looked at every FF places I could and made a list of things I could eat.

For instance, I at Chic-fil-a I by a number 7 with a side salad and a water bottle. I take the chicken out of the sandwish, cut it up and voala (sp?) I have a nice small chicken salad that I can eat about 1/4 of.

I think the point is to do the best you can with what you've got.

Don't fool yourself into thinking all the organic **** at Sprouts is good for you though.

Food is food. Don't demify or deify it.

 ALL THINGS IN MODERATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moderation to me is the key. If I was still eating fast food 4-5 times a week like I was before surgery I would not be losing the weight that I am. I do, on occasion, for one reason or another, eat fast food. I am talking about once every two weeks maybe, if that, and I feel it's working out just fine for me. If it's easier for you never to eat it again, then that is your path. Food is not the devil, it's how often we make the wrong choices that is.
