8 Days Out/Glad to be Home
VSG on 05/23/12
I was lucky. Dr Chin's nurse called this afternoon and is able
to get me in tomorrow to remove the drain. Thank goodness.
I am supposed to get a call about my stay, but if I don't I want
to give a written complaint to my Member Services Department
for Kaiser. If it helps just one person then I feel I have tried to
make the care received a little better.

You have been on my mind, I'm happy it is looking better for you. I agree with the nurse, you need to call member services. This is not the first time I've read about nurses at St. B's leaving patients to pee themselves. I saw it on a review website. Kaiser needs to know that this happened. I understand that you might be uncomfortable complaining, but if your voice isn't heard, it will happen to others too. Did you have a complication that required a drain? Dr. Chin's video said they usually don't use them. Just curious, trying to prepare for when it's my turn to join the loser's bench.

Hi Linda,
When they delivered me to my room following surgery Dr. Chin told
me that the stapling/cutting device misfired(not all staples managed
to fire) so he double stitched and cauterized the area. I felt lucky he
didn't find it necessary to cut me completely open. I am recovering
rather well. The nurse got me in tomorrow morning to remove the drain.
It was so embarrassing dealing with the pee issues. It really took
a lot out of me emotionally. I had to lay their and listen to the nurses
discussing me just outside the door. My room was right across from
the central nurses station. No one was with me so I just laid there
and cried. I do intend to report it to Kaiser. Kaiser spends a lot of
money to use their surgery space. I didn't do anything to deserve being
gossiped about by their staff. I thank you for your concern. You probably
won't need a drain. A friend who had surgery in January didn't get a
drain. I wish you much luck on your surgery. If you stay at that hospital
just be sure to have someone to sit with you and stay overnight. I am
sure you would be treated much better.

oh, that sounds very frustrating. I am glad it is behind you. They pump you with so much fluid, I had to pee every hour or so. But either I called early enough, or they came quicker, because I always made it, but that measuring thing they put in the toilet was always full! It took them a long time to get me out of bed, though - had to remove the blood pressure cuff from one side, unhook the iv stuff on the other, take off the cuffs on my legs, and then I could get up. I felt bad for having to call them all the time!
