Totally OT - can someone help me identify this berry?
Yep, wild strawberries, the other leaves are from my morning glory creepers, these got themsevles all tangled up in them, not sure where they even came from but happy they are here.
Is it the first year for your strawberries? Often the first year they don't have a very good taste, but following years they are much better! Also, you can be aggressive in your pruning at the end of flowering and it will help the plant store more energy to make tastier fruit the next year!

Nope! My lawn (if you can call it that!) has always has them at the edges near the fence, some violets, lamb's ear and various other inhabitants.. the strawberries just never get much bigger than a dime, and are meh.. Now I do have a big Rubbermaid tub out back overflowing with cultivated strawberries that I planted last Spring when I had my VSG, and let the runners propigate while pinching the berries.. that gives me a small handfull every couple days.. my treat!
My goal this year is to get blueberries started so I will have a good crop next year. We are working on becoming self sustaining, although the town is making it so hard on us. They won't let us build a rabbit hutch and they said no to our request for chickens. I wonder why kind of gasket they would blow if we tried to build bee hives LOL
