Travel--before and after VSG
I agree with you about the purpose of the trip--and we will be with friends and family so this will be a wonderful time for all of us. I'm really excited!
That is a great idea about the app/entree. Do you ask them to hold your app and bring it with the meal? My husband and I did that a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't think of it as a "plan," just what happened. OTOH, he got fried oysters and fries and hush puppies and I got boiled shrimp. I wouldn't have been sampling off his plate, anyway!
Thanks for the help.

Yep! Believe it or not, it's something we started to do several years ago! I don't like many leftovers, so unless we knew the place served reasonable amounts of food (most don't where I live, even with my pre-op stomach it was insane!) we'd do the app & entree routine and ask they be brought out together. We'd still sometimes come home with stuff.. now we almost always do because of my surgery! I just tell the server I'm having an app for dinner.. then we nibble off both.
The other thing we do often, and this also works really well- we go to a restaurant that has some good selections on the app menu (not fried or in potato skins type stuff!) and we tell the server we are going to order a bunch of small plates for dinner.. and proceed to order 3-5 apps depending on what they are.. instant tapas meal! It makes it fun for the both of us, more variety, more sampling.. and some creative leftovers usually. Makes dinner last longer too as they tend to not all come out at the same time, though we usually ask that they do bring them as they can.. and of course, we tip well considering our bill is lower than the average (usually) but the server is still serving us..

I would think Hawaii would be a really sleeve friendly place to travel. Almost every menu has some sort of fresh fish and veggie as an entree. Since you will have a fridge you'll be able to take leftovers and have them for lunch the next day.
Have a great trip! Hawaii is one of my favorite vacation destinations!!
