Grazing...

Moooo!

So, I have been eating small amounts all day.  1/2 cup cottage cheese when I wake up.  Maybe a piece of ham later in the morning.  SF Popsicle.  I tend to list whatever I eat at a certain time as a meal, meaning I might have a Greek yogurt for lunch because it's noon, and 2 ounces of protein as a snack, because it's 3:00.

I'm ending my day usually around 600 calories and 60+ grams of protein.  A "bad" day is when I get closer to 800 calories, but now that I'm consciously trying to avoid that, it's doesn't happen that often.

Am I making a mistake by not setting up actual meals?

I haven't had this yet...scheduled for June 28th...but in my opinion grazing is the way to go! Many nutritionists beleive that we are supposed to "graze" as opposed to eating a full meal as long as you are tracking what you are eating and don't over do it. On that same note, 600 calories seem like a very low number. I think the 700 or 800 is probably a healthier number just because our bodies need a certian amount of calories to function.  Please excuse me if the 600 is the norm post surgery....I may be totally surprised on the 15th when I go for my Pre-Op visit!

All in all though...I hope grazing is ok.....my son (8 years) is a grazer....and I just make sure he has health options to choose from...so far, he is tall and lean!

Personally, it's whatever works best for you- and as long as you are tracking, I don't see the harm.
My doc wanted 3 meals a day plus protein shakes, no snacks... that did not work for me, so I'd eat (and still do) 4-6x a day. 4 times on my normal routine, up to 6 or sometimes even more on my hungry days (got some hunger back @ mo 4, the head "nibbles" never left..)

If I get on the high side of my calories and I'm having a nibbly/hungry day, I reach for veggie snacks with a savory GY dip. I still can't eat more than about 2-2.25oz chicken, so in order to get it in- I must eat multiple times a day, or load the shakes.

The only time this can become an issue is as you get further out- and your capacity gets a bit larger, if you don't monitor your intake, you can easily exceed your goals by grazing.. just another personal reason I must be a tracker, even at goal.

As long as you're not grazing on the wrong things.  My day starts at 5:30 am so I usually have my protein drink around 7-7:30am.  Around 10-10:30 I have some beef jerkey or other protein snack. I go to lunch at 1:30 sometimes I'm not hungry but other times I will have some low carb chicken salad,  then at 3:00 I'll have have maybe a few sliced strawberries or blackberries with splenda on them and that holds over till 6:30 when I can have supper at home.  As long as your grazing doesn't consist of high carb foods you should be ok.

I agree that you have to determine what is best for you. You are making good food choices so that's great right there.
I swear, I follow more of the advice I get on this board than Kaiser's plan. They want me on 3 meals a day, no snacks. I try to do that most days but if I cannot get in at least 60-70 grams of protein then I will snack on something high protein. Plus, since I was trying to consume more in one sitting, I was afraid I was stretching my sleeve by eating less times a day because I had to eat more at one given time ... hope that makes sense.
I do try to not snack if I can help it but if it's true hunger and if I am below my daily calories I will eat more frequently.
Best of luck!
