Why You Can't Live By the Scale

We are told to take our measurements and I still haven't done that, which I know is a mistake. But fortunately I am able to tell in other ways that yes--just as the VETS tell us--even when the scale isn't moving much our bodies are.

My stall lasted about 11 or 12 days (2nd and 3rd week).  I saw my sister at the beginning of it, and at the end of it, and she said, Wow, you've lost more weight since I saw you.  And I said that I actually hadn't, and she insisted that my neck and throat showed a lot of difference since the week before.  She sat beside me both times so was looking at my profile as I talked to friends.

I am wearing old baggy jean-capris that I've had for years, but are tight around the waist.  A week ago I was thrilled I could put them on but the longer I wore them, the more uncomfortable they were.  I put them on this morning thinking I'd only wear them until my clothes came out of the dryer, and have had them on all day.  I've only lost a pound or two--not enough to make that much difference.  But my body is clearly changing more than the scale shows.

These are just a couple of ways things are different.  But what surprises me is how often I have these NSVs when I haven't just dropped several pounds, or maybe even have been sitting at the same weight for a few days.

Good on you!

At one point, after I started lifting, the scale went down only 10 lbs, but I went from a size 12 to a size 6.

Yea.  Screw the scale, what's the body comp look like!?

That's an amazing shift for not much scale-loss.

Yes indeed, and an amazing segue into a conversation on how muscle mass/density wears so much better than fat mass/density!  :}

I'm waiting for the surgeon to release me to find out for myself!  I don't know how long it takes to heal enough, but I see him next Wednesday, so we'll see!

Right on sistah!  My only words of advice are to be a slow go-er because its best if you only have to heal up properly once - and your next surgery isnt for a hernia.  :}

Thanks for that advice.  I had a hernia repair with my sleeve.  Don't want another one!
