What if I didn't drink 60 ounces before surgery?
I've never been a big drinker. Maybe 50 ounces at the most. I'm getting about 35-40 ounces a day now, I'm 6 days post op. My pee is practically clear, and I'm going 4x as much as I use too! I never use to get up in the nite to go to the potty, now its like 3 x , so I don't think I'm even getting close to dehydration. My question is, if I didn't do it pre surgery, Isnt my body use to the amount of fluids? I hightly doubt I ever got 80 grams of protein b4 surgery either. To be honest all I drank pre surgery is coke zero, about 4 cans a day. so I guess thats why I'm peeing so much now since i've changed to water and other clear liquids.
I guess the way I would look at it is doing what we've been doing is what got us here to begin with. I haven't. Been able to do it on my own for the twenty years I've been trying so I'm going to do what the Dr and NUT tell me without questioning it. Your. Body will get used to the water and with the protein, you may not have gotten that much before but you also haven't had major survey removing most of hour stomach.
It's important to get at least 64 oz for everyone, including those (like you) who didn't drink that much before surgery. The main reason is that our livers and kidneys have lots of work to do to flush the fat and toxins out of our bodies as we lose weight. But they can't do that work without the proper amount of fluids.
It'll probably be a pretty big adjustment for you at first, but after a short while, it will feel like second nature.

To add to what MsPokerFace said, 64 ounces is a minimum not target. The formula or poper hydration is half of your body weight in pounds is the number of ounces of water you should drink. At your weight that should be ably 128 ounces of water.

Kinda late to ask that question now since you've already had the surgery.
Doesnt matter how much you pee - youre processing a tremendous amount of fat and need water to do so. Eating less protein is going to increase how much muscle gets broken down along with the fat, which reduces your health - you need to maintain lean body mass Also, when you stall, it may be because your protein and/or liquid intake is too low.
Doesnt matter what you did in pre-op life - you're post-op now. You should aim for like three liters of water a day. If you look around at the people who lose all the weight they want, they don't skimp on protein and water. It's important
Good luck!
