Need advice... question about foot/ankle injury

On Friday, I did something to my left foot while at my boot camp class.  It started hurting while I was doing lunges. The pain was sharp and went from the outer side of my ankle down to the arch of my foot.  It seemed to do better when I didn't bend my knee quite as far, so I modified that move for the rest of the time and went on... no big deal, or so I thought.

The rest of the day, it was bothering me.  The pain wasn't intolerable, but it was definitely there.  I iced it the first chance I got and bought a wrap to use to support it while I was walking around the rest of the day.  Went out with my husband that night and wore heels to dinner, and had no problems... but I didn't do much standing or walking either.

Over the weekend I wore the wrap as much as I could, didn't really ice it because I didn't have time, but it didn't seem to bother me much, except for a few times when it didn't seem to like the way I was pointing my toes or if I accidentally beared on it too much.

Today it bothered me enough that I made sure to wear the wrap while doing my cardio at the gym.  I was fine while working out, but then when I went to stretch I felt sharp pain when I pointed my toes or sat in a butterfly position.  Getting up from stretching was no fun either.

Should I go get this seen about?  I don't want to overreact, as I tend to do with these things, or waste a doctor's time, but I also don't want to make this worse by doing something that I shouldn't or not doing something that I need to do.

PS- I kinda think that part of the problem here was that my tennis shoes are now too big... but I didn't realize they were that bad until I went to boot camp.  Guess I'll be going out tomorrow to have someone tell me what shoe size I need now... :)

Sounds like a strain - not a sprain or tear. Rest it, ice it (even now it's still a good thing to ice) and give it time to heal.
As on obese person you really need to have direct supervision when learning certain moves like lunges and squats. Position is vital for those movements and with our extra weight we can really mess up our knees and ankles doing those two moves improperly. I messed my knee up doing squats. It's fine now, but I strained the tendon that goes down the outside of my knee and it tightened up on me and then started popping. YUCK!

Ask your boot camp instructor to go over those moves with you one on one before you do them again.

How was the Atlanta meet up? Was thinking of "y'all"!

Thanks.  I iced it when I got home from the gym, and I'll do it again here in a minute.  I'll talk to the instructor the next time I see him and get him to give me some pointers on this, and maybe just ask him to keep an eye on my positions in general.

The meetup was awesome!  I posted some pics this morning... you should definitely backstalk and look for the thread :)

Sorry to hear about your injury. I would lay off of the high intensity workout for a bit and perhaps focus on weights (upper body) and maybe some time on a recumbant bike for a bit for cardio. Think low impact until it heals. Oh and RICE it. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Good luck!

Thanks Elbie :)  My cardio tonight consisted of 20 minutes on a recumbant bike and 20 minutes on an elliptical, which I figured wouldn't really be high impact since most of the pressure there is on my thighs, really.  Maybe I was wrong.

Definitely RICEing as we speak.  Thanks again!

I agree with the others, RICE is nice. You'll need to be carefull for a few days and hopefully it will heal. If it gets worse, go see the doc.

I have been plagued with ankles issues my whole life. You have a strain. Get some Myoflex and rest it. You'll be fine in a couple of days.
