It has lots of sugar in it, so I wouldn't buy it again. I'm sensitive to sugar so I can't drink it, but it was good tasting.

I was always under the impression the Ensure was to help people gain weight. They used to force the anorexic kids to drink it during meals... yes, real anorexia, not just thin kids. I would assume it has a lot of calories in it.

Ensure, along with Boost and similar products, are primarily targeted at the elder market who need something easily consumed that can help them preserve or increase weight, so they really aren't appropriate for our use.

Likewise, you may come across some protein drinks or powders that are fairly high in sugars, as that is useful for those who are seriously building muscle mass (the insulin spike from the sugar aids in transport of the protein to the muscle cells) but is overkill (to say the least) for when we are simply trying to get in enough protein to preserve what muscle mass we have with the minimum caloric cost.
