JAMA article on wls and alcohol
This article which appeared today in the Journal of the American Medical Association is another good reason to make sure that we get the counselling and information we need prior to surgery so that we don't wind up with problems down the road.

Thanks for sharing this, Lynn. I always believe there is no such thing as too much information when it comes to health.
Given that many of us with weight issues journeyed up the scale because of emotional issues and less-than-healthy behaviours, I guess it's to be expected that a certain precentage would look for another way to "feel good" when food became less an option.
And of course, the less food you have in your tummy the more alcohol is going to affect you, so that it's just a given that post-WLS a person should be careful to re-assess their alcohol tolerance.

Lynn,
HAHA...I just posted a topic too. Nightline on ABC just did a story on it. I don't think it matters what type of surgery you have....either way...most of us have an issue (I will be the first to admit I have an addiction to food). If I don't have the help and support, and learn about the tools to treat that addiction, it will just transfer over to and addiction of something else.
I think it COULD put me at higher risk for alcohol abuse. I mean...think of it. If you can't eat.....but can drink...hum.....and you can get drunk quicker.....
Now notice that I did say COULD!!!
I just find it funny that journals and scientists come up with this stuff.....I am a silly person who could have told you that....and what do I know??
