So about this calorie thing?

I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow but thought I'd ask - how in the hell do you get enough calories in to sustain life the first week? I'm looking at my list and it's all sugar-free/fat free. Since I'm only taking in (doing my damndest) about 64 fluid ounces of "clear-ish: sugar free stuff, how in the world am I going to be able to walk around?

Would 4 oz of 2% milk or one regular Jello kill me?

This is so not a OMG I need a pizza post. Protein alone does not give you energy. You need calories from somewhere, right?

I hope I want to sleep all day because I just had my surgery on Monday and not because I'm not getting any nutrition in.

The tired feeling really is more from surgery right now than the lack of calories. Rest up... your body is telling you that you need it.

As far as the lack of calories, our bodies pull energy from our fat stores when we don't eat enough to fit the bill. That's what weight loss is... eating less calories than we are burning.

I do comprehend that equation -  I just feel anorexic. LOL

My doctor said "I know 800 isn't a lot" but I can't imagine being even remotely there any time soon.

Well, once you start drinking protein drinks, you'll be somewhere around 400 calories a day.  When you work your way up to solids, it'll climb to about 600-800.  You'll get there.  Just focus on the fluids right now, and the rest will fall into place.

You have all the calories you need in your fat stores.  Trust me....you will not starve.

Your concern right now is supplementation for things your body needs (not calories).  It needs protein, it needs vitamins, it needs calcium, etc.

Trader Joe's. My husband got me some at Target but they are yuck. The ones at TJ's are awesome.

That, exactly. I felt like a zombie for the first two weeks, make sure to get your protein and you will be fine!

Fat - I assume you have some hanging around on you somewhere  - will take care of any lack of calories right now.  The anesthesia and the surgery itself is kicking your butt.  That's why you're tired.  Get some rest, drink your fluids, and don't worry about your lack of calories.
