Why chewable vitamins?

I've been taking my regular vitamin horse pills since about two weeks out.  (I have two big jars of chewables I'm not taking.)  Is swallowing the only issue, or is there some other reason people recommend chewables?

I don't know. I just started post-op taking bariatric vitamins which seem to be chewables and it kinda just stuck with me. Plus, the ones I take now don't make me nauseous like the big pills I took before. For me, it's just my preference.

Since I'm post-menopausal, I don't have to take the ones with iron, which did bother me.  Plus, I have switched to Whole Foods vitamins and they don't bother me the way the grocery store brands used to do.

If it helps to add to your question, my surgeon requires chewable for the 1st month after surgery but says then you can switch to regular ones if you prefer. That would tell me it's a swallowing/baby sleeve issue, not a long term absorbtion issue.

That makes sense, since malabsorption isn't a sleeve issue.  Thanks!

According to my metabolic dr, once you're cleared for all foods, you can swallow pills. I bought so much of the chewables not knowing that it wasn't forever, that at 3 1/2 mos out, I'm still using them. I did start taking a regular calcium and I find that it's sometimes hard to swallow so I may go back to the soft chews.

I really need to take the rest of my chewables.  I just don't like them!

Mines a swallowing issue, they get stuck right at the back of my throat.  I can't drink quickly enough to get them down! I wish I could, get tired of the taste of the chewables!

I have the same issue with calcium.

Have you tried drinking before you take the vitamin to get your throat wet?  I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

Also, my mom was told to tilt her head forward instead of back.  It opens your throat more.  Tilting back feels more natural, but she never had problems once she started tilting forward.  Also, she used ice water.  She said ice water worked better than regular.

I will try that.  My magnesium is not coated, about the size of a skittle but thinner.  It wasn't until this week that I could actually get it down.

With caps its OK, but the non coated or large I sound like a cat with a hair ball:)
