Hi there,

Glad you are recovering nicely.  I had my Gastric Sleeve Surgery on May 30th, 2012
and I am recovering good. Its been 5 weeks since surgery and just now starting to eat soft foods and trying to get my water in which is hard. The only way I can drink water is to put ice in it so its cold so I know what you mean about getting all the required water in. Ill be glad when my insides are fully healed. I am down 25 lbs since surgery and I guess its better than before surgery as then I would just be up and down like a yo yo.

Thank you!  Yep, getting this water down is a chore.  I have 3 flavors of Mio -- that helps, and I am thrilled when I can get a teaspoon of jello down -- takes me 10 minutes to eat a teaspoon of jello LOL  That just floors me......

You are doing WOWOWOWEEE WELL!  Good for you.  Twenty-five pounds in just under 5 weeks?  You are an inspiration.  Be proud of your accomplishment!  Keep up the great job!

Water is a challenge but I started putting a packet of Crystal Light SF drink mix in my water and that helps. Pink Lemonade is my favorite.  My water seems to go down better if its ice cold.  What is mio that you mentioned you take?

Pink lemonade is my favorite, too!  Super cold does go down easier, but it's still a big chore.  I feel so full from just one sip.

Mio is a sugar free  flavor additive.  In my local grocery store, it's with the packets of Kool Aid.  It comes in small squeeze bottles.  I have grape, orange-tangerine, and lemon.  Just something to change things up a little bit.

I sure hope my surgeon moves me to full liquids tomorrow -- I haven't had more than maybe 100 calories since the 27th and I'm feeling weak.  How long before you go to full liquids?

Oh ok, ive seen that mio in the store but didnt know what it was. Now i remember seeing a commerical about it.  The first 2 weeks after surgery I was on full liquids like chicken broth, cream of chicken soup was my favorite as it had the most flavor and SF jello and pudding. and SF popsiscles.   then I was on pureed foods (anything I was willing to put in a blender I could eat) for a 3 weeks and now just starting soft foods.

So you are only a week after surgery, yeh just take it one day at a time and use your little cup 2 oz measure to drink and measure from. That helped me to not eat too much.

You are not on a liquid diet now?  Do you have your water and protein shakes?

I'm looking forward to full liquids.  If I'd been able to see my surgeon on Tuesday, I might be on fulls, but with the Holiday today, I don't see him until tomorrow when he returns from his vacation.  His colleague took over the hospital rounds and was not willing to move me from Clears to Fulls -- possibly because I also had an umbilical hernia repaired at the same time.  There are a dozen Premier Protein shakes in my fridge waving at me every time I refill my water mug.........with luck, I'll have one tomorrow when I get back from getting this annoying drain out and he gives me the go-ahead for shakes and soups.............cream of chicken soup sounds like my dream lunch!  LOL

Thanks for your info about your plan...........sounds a lot like mine -- just that I'm delayed in going forward.   All in good time though...........I can be a patient patient!!!

Hey sleeve sister! I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. I don't want to drink much either besides water with some Mio. I go to the doctor on Friday and I hope that they will clear me for some protein shakes.

Hi Ya Sis!   Thanks a bunch.  Love that Mio.  As I said before, a teaspoon of jello is a chore to get down...........I can't believe it takes me 10 minutes to eat it LOL

I hear ya about getting started on full liquids.  I am getting a little worried about getting absolutely no nutrition for a week.  I see my surgeon Thursday for a check up -- and hopefully get this annoying drain removed............UGH on that

Sure hope we get the nod to start the protein shakes.........let me know what you surgeon says, okay?  And I'll let you know what happens at my appointment.  I have fingers crossed that those 8 pounds I gained in the hospital will be gone by then.

Take care..........and good luck to both of us

WTG Princess,
I spent the first day or so trying to drink, drink, drink, get in those oz and gms. I didn't want to be dehydrated, have to get readmitted, etc. Well, I think that made me feel worse. It was an impossible goal. So, I realized my new tiny tummy was just made, and it wasn't ready for a full 64 oz yet, either.
The first day I had maybe 40 oz, the next day about 50, etc. Much easier. Jello takes up too much "space" in my sleeve. I'm liking popsicles, when I just can't sip another drop, or taking the nasty taste of some crushed meds away.

We'll get there on this journey called life, with all these good friends around us.

Hi Sparkie!

You are doing great getting in so much liquid.  I might get 32 oz a day total.  It's hilarious about the jello -- one teaspoon takes me about 15 minutes to eat.

I sure hope my surgeon puts me on full liquids tomorrow.  As I mentioned in an earlier reply, I've had something like 100 calories total since June 27th and I feel very weak.

I'm so grateful that the sleeve surgery is giving me no trouble at all.  The hernia repair is a little sore and twingy now and then and coughing scares me -- I'm afraid the mesh will come undone or I'll break stitches.  I did get cleared for sugar-free hard candy to use to ease the coughing, so that's a help.

You're right -- we will get there.  All the Vets here have done it and we will, too.  It's so nice to have people to turn to and become friends with as we move down the road to our new lives .
