can WLS'ers get hair sewn in? Not a wig fan

I am losing about 10-15 handfuls of hair per day.  In the shower, when I blow dry, and at the end of the day the back of my shirt is COVERED in hair.

It is thinning but not quite noticeable yet to others but at this rate it's only a matter of time.  Here's my question:

With thin hair can we go to the hairdresser and get hair "sewn in" or would that just make more hair fall out due to the weight?

My complaint about wigs is that they look SO *FULL* and shiny that most of the time that it is OBVIOUSLY a wig.  I don't want it to be obvious, rather look natural. I'm extremely self-conscious.

I know I could get to the point of not wanting to be seen in public with extremely thinned out hair (like I felt when I was fat and actually DID become somewhat of a recluse) and I don't want to do that!

What are our options here?

I'm not sure if I would get it sewn in.  I'm sure someone else would know.

My hair is really starting to fall out.  My fiancee and I discussed it..if it gets much thinner I will get a wig.  I've seen a LOT of wigs that are shiney and overly full like you are describing but if you go to a good retailer that isn't an issue.

If you get it sewn in and your hair is failling out then the braids that it is sewn into will get loose fairly quickly I would think since many of the hairs in the braid would be fallen out at the root each day. I wonder if gluing would work better for this issue.

Contact a stylist. Without knowing your ethnicity/hair type it's hard to advise.

I have already suffered hair loss and I haven't even had wls. And my hair loss is to the point that it would be noticeable to lots of people -- scalp showing through etc. I use Nanogen to thicken the hair and cover scalp. There are other good similar products like xfusion and Toppik. These are tiny little microfibers that you shake into your hair, and it makes it fuller and thicker and covers places where your scalp might otherwise show through.
If you are thinking this is the same thing as that spray-on hair in a can that you used to see in late nigh infomercials -- it isn't! It is so much better than that. I really recommend checking them out. You can see videos on YouTube or on the product websites -- if you get the right product, it works great. My only bit of caution is when picking the color, go a shade lighter than you think you need. Seems to blend better that way.

Maybe I don't know much about sewing hair in, but it seems that if you're sewing the hair onto hair that you don't know will be there tomorrow, won't you just lose the hair you are paying for with the natural hair that is shredding? If that makes sense... if I'm right, it seems like that could potentially be a huge waste of money.

Ask your hairdresser, but I *think* they can cut and style wigs to your liking... they could probably take a set of thinners to it to make it look more natural.

Again, I may not know what I'm talking about here, but those are my thoughts.

A expert stylist can cornrow the hair and sew a net on top and then add tracks (weave). Women with alopecia get this done all the time. I would check YouTube out. It is amazing what folks come up with.

Oh ok.  Like I said, totally out of my knowledge base... lol :)  I never thought of the cornrow thing because if I go more than two days without washing my hair, it gets gross in a big hurry.

I agree...If you get someone to braid your hair down and then sew a net onto the braid then sew the hair on would be great and last longer.. I have not had surgery yet myself but I can tell you that I love my quick weave with the glue protectant....It made my hair grow in 2 months and my hair was VERY SHORT due to me cutting off but not my hair almost on my shoulders.  The glue protectant. Morning Glory or the cheaper verison has some in it to help you hair grow!!!  I hope this helps and also wash and deep condition you hair with a product with keratin in....
