Solid Food & Protein Bars

I am 2 months post op and find it hard to eat anything solid.
I am not hungary at all and really could care less about food.
I tried turkey burgers and my chest hurt so bad I had to throw
it out.  I chewed it a lot too.  I didn't throw it up, but every bite was
painful. The only thing I like is cream of chicken soup.  I need
to get more protein in and wanted to try eatinga protein bar.
At what stage did anyone out there start eating protein bars?
Even with these issues I have only lost 25 pounds since my
surgery on May 23rd.  Is this how it is supposed to be at
9 weeks out?  Anybody have any suggestions?

No, that's not how it's supposed to be.  My suggestion is to get to your doc and tell him/her what's going on.  At 9 weeks out, you should be able to eat solid food without pain.  Also, you're right, you'll never get in enough protein with just cream of chicken soup.  I would NOT try to eat a protein bar if you aren't even able to eat soft foods, such as cottage cheese, pudding, etc.

Good luck to you!

I second the see your Dr. advice.. you should not be feeling like solids are still an issue (pain) going down at this stage. The lack of hunger/interest in food- that's normal.

I'd be concerned you may have something else happening.. could be nothing, could be a slight stricture causing things to be too tight, could be esophageal spasms.. all can be treated, but you need to be checked out at this point I believe.

Protein bars are just glorified candy bars.  Don't go there.  There is a bit more protein than a snickers bar, but lots of bad stuff accompany it.
