HOW's ALCOHOL BEEN TREATIN YA??

A bit better actually :)

I was a regular drinker with a high tolerance, between my bulk and regular imbibing. Now, I have 2-3 max drinks in an evening and am happy. I don't drink regularly, and didn't start really dabbling till I was about 6mo+ out (earlier than that, any sips burned, badly or lead to insta-hangover.)

Now, it's a couple times a month.. evening out or in.. nice drinks or wine. I enjoy my beverages in moderation, and appreciate a well crafted drink, where before- often I was drinking just to drink.

Faster gastric emptying=faster buzz, which has also taught me to learn to "sip" my drink.. Lighter weight body also=lower tolerance. I now go for quality over quantity with my drinks as well as food.

Though we do not have the same physiological propensity to develop an alcohol dependence like RNY folks do (many studies have subsequently pointed out that there is a biological reason for increased occurrences of alcohol addiction post RNY WLS, but this is not seen for other surgeries).. there is always the realization that habituation and dependence can occur regardless of surgical type- or for that matter- for anyone. It is something I do enjoy in moderation, and it has a place in my life.

Post-sleeve, alcohol has really lost its appeal for me.  I do feel the effects quicker, and its gone just as fast.   But it makes me feel gross, even just part of a glass of wine.  I was never one to drink without eating, and now that I can't really eat and drink comfortably at the same time, wine just does not sit well.  I feel like it makes me bloated, and like I am sabotaging my weight loss.

IDK, it could be partly mental.  I am scared of transfer addiction, especially since I have a strong family history of alcoholism.  Whatever is making me not want to drink, I'll take it.

Instead I look forward to exercise as my form of stress relief.

I sip wine occasionally but not much. I did have a glass of red wine in a restaurant once while waiting for my dinner and I got soooo drunk I couldn't believe it. I couldn't even get up from the table. The whole room was spinning. ONE GLASS! I was out if it for a while and felt awful the next morning. Hate that feeling so I avoid drinking.  Plus, I like to have a little cheese or crackers with my wine and now with my sleeve it takes the fun out of it. Can eat and drink anymore.

i'm 10 months out and haven't had more than 2 sips of champagne at a wedding a few weeks ago since before surgery.  i'm scared!   all the stories i hear about getting buzzed faster- i had an alcohol problem prior to food addiction (i'm a transfering addictions kinda gal) and the few years before surgery would only have maybe one or two drinks a year.

i'm going out with some old friends tomorrow night and really would like a drink but am so scared i'll end up making a fool out of myself from getting buzzed so quickly!

I still would not be a cheap date.(I'm Irish) I have noticed a buzz can go away quickly but I don't drink often.I have noticed a desire to go out more but I think it has more to do with feeling more attractive.
