Last 20!

Honestly, and this is only what worked FOR ME so not saying it will work for everyone, for the last 20 lbs I made sure to always NET 700 cals, so I would eat back some of my exercise calories if that's what it too to get a TOTAL of 700 cals. For ME, when I gave my body more fuel it worked more efficiently and the weight came off faster.

Thanks for posting this, tripmom. This is something I've been struggling to decide how to handle. I'm exhausted all of the time since upping my exercise. I have 20-25 more lbs. to lose and I don't think my current way of eating is working.

I want lipo too.
Girl, this seriously is hard to get the last 20 pounds off. I must admit I haven't always been faithful to the ol' 600 a day diet lately because I was seriously pulling my hair out with stall after stall. Now I upped my calories a bit more & I just feel better over all. Enough of this torture of restricting so much... For me anyway. I'm confident I will get to goal soon but I'm just taking it day by day.
BTW, you are so pretty & I think you look so great already!!!

The last several pounds to goal were the hardest for me. Most of it was mental but I just amped up my exercise, watched my cals and starting eating less processed food. I also watched my sodium closely and started juicing vegges for some extra energy. Just hang in there, it will come off in its own time!

For me the last 13 to 15 were pretty tough to get off. My weight loss slowed and I lost 6 pounds one month, then 5 the next and then finally the last 3 came off and I hit my goal.

I ended up moving my goal weight up a few pounds.I realized that I was already at a good weight and my body fat percentage was good for my age. I'm still trying to reduce my body fat percentage so that it is 15 to 17 percent, but that's a personal choice. Where I was at 18.5% body fat when I reached goal is still really good for a man approaching 50.

To get to a healthy BMI according to the charts I would still have to lose 13 pounds (as of today). The only time I weighed that little was when I was 18 years old and hadn't muscled out yet. To weigh that today would make me look sick. I decided that I needed to focus on body fat percentage and overall health to help me determine appropriate goal weight.

Looking at your pics that you posted in May, assuming you've lost weight since then, you may want to rethink your goal weight. Some of us simply don't fit into the range for the BMI charts. Yes, there aren't many of us that don't, but there are a few. I am one of them.
You mention that you are already in the upper BMI range for a healthy weight. You may really be where you are supposed to be. I think it may be something that you might need to consider.

Maybe only a 5 pound cushion is what you need.

Whatever you decide - good luck.

BTW - to get to goal I kept my calories low and pretty constant (between 700 & 800), kept the protein super high (80-100 grams per day), drank a ton of water and exercised 5 days a week- 3 days of weight training and 5 days of cardio.

Thanks so much for your response, Kairk.  My scale, which may or may not be accurate, still tells me that I am 30% body fat.  I'm 5'8" and 162 lbs.  I have been running pretty religiously for the past six months, but after reading some responses today, I'm thinking I should incorporate some strength training as well.  Thanks for the reminder to post new pictures!!  Huge congrats on your success!

In regard to the response - My pleasure! As for the weight training.... Go for it! I love what it is doing for me!

FYI - I'm 5'7". For me to be at a "normal" BMI I have to weigh 159. Like I said because of my bone and muscle structure, that just ain't gonna happen!

You are already at a normal BMI weighing in at 162. I have a sneaking suspicion that your scale isn't accurate on the body fat percentage. Do you have access to a gym or a BodPod facility (you can google locations) to get an accurate body fat percentage reading? That would probably do you a world of good.

Another thing to consider (now that I'm on a roll!) is your personal body image. I know that I am thinner to others than I am to myself. I still see myself as too thick around the middle and not lean enough. I have to rely on my clothing sizes (men's small and medium shirts and 30 to 32 inch waist pants) and those close to me to help me get past my body dysmorphia. The other day I was out and about shopping with my partner. I saw a guy and pointed him out and said, "I want to be thin like that guy." My partner looked at me incredulously and said, "But you are already that thin. You need to learn to see it."

Just another thing to consider. It also helped me when a fellow VSGer, whom I admire and respect and is tiny, tiny,  pulled me aside and told me I was there. Is there anyone in your real life that can be that person for you?

Cheers!

I pretty much stayed that same course the entire time to the end.. the last 15-20 are a pain, and slow.. But, I tried not to stress over it, kept at about 750-800 cals, and under 30 carbs for sure during those last few months till I hit 155. I reset my goal lower (145) hit it, bounced up, and have been very, very slowly creeping my way down again. So, I'm in the stay the course camp.. I never jigged around with anything even during my stalls, just waited it out and still made goal at under a year.

Only now that I'm trying to ease into maintenance have I've raised my daily target cals to 900 (my weekly average is higher generally, prob 1200-1400 due to occasional high days) and carbs I've tightly capped at 45, but generally stay under 40 with about half from fiber now.. It's still coming off, very very slowly on the scale- but measurement wise things have been shifting for the better.

Bodyfat wise, my scale says 25 point something to 27% depending on the day.. I believe it- based on my eyes.. I'm 5'7" and weigh 146-148 on any day. I have a BodPod Friday, and would not be shocked to find it's actually higher than what my scale says it is. This is going to start rapidly (hopefully) shifting as I'm getting in with someone for some more serious weight training. I want to get the BF down to 21%.
