Surgery & walking??
VSG on 06/26/12
About 3-4 hours. I was in recovery for 2 hours, then dopey in my room, but out of bed and wandering the halls within 2 hours of rolling back into my room.
If you mean walking outside - I was discharged early on day 4, we were driven back to San Diego and rested for an hour in our hotel room before calling a cab and going shopping. The next day we walked 1/2 mile to the bus stop and headed off for more shopping. I had to rest along the way, but had no pain and I think the walking did me good.

I had my first walk 4 hours post-op and every 4 hours for the first 24 hours, then more frequently. I was afraid of complications that come with avoiding walking like pneumonia and blood clots. I went home after 2 nights in the hospital and started walking around the neighborhood for 30 minutes each morning and evening. After the first week was over I started to increase the speed and walk a little further. during week three I started doing the walk away the pounds 3 mile walk. I didn't use weights until week 4 when cleared by the surgeon.
