I knew I had a hiatal hernia, which caused bad heartburn. Dr. Aceves fixed during my sleeve surgery,  which was great, and for no added cost!  My heartburn is now under much better control. Yay!

I have one and was told that it would be fixed monday with sleeve. But I have heard conflicting stories about whether it adds more pain in recovery or not. The admit nurse said that it will not feel any more pain than someone without it, but I have read a few on here that say they stayed longer and were more sore. We will see how I handle it, monday. How are you doing? Is it better or worse than you expected? You seen to be doing great!

If I would have never been told I wouldn't have known. Minimal pain.

Yep my dr found one that we didn't know about. I'm 5 days out and I'm pretty sure it is that stiched up hernia that is causing the most pain on my right side just above my belly button. How has your pain been with your hernia? I'm still taking some pain meds (lower dose) and sleeping in my recliner. The gravity pain when I walk around is brutal, especially when my pain med is wearing off. Oh and I sneezed earlier today... OUCH!

Hiatal hernia is high up where the esophagus and stomach connect - almost up under the rib cage. That pain you're feeling is most likely the incision from which your stomach remnant was removed. That one can cause a lot of discomfort for a few weeks. The internal stiches at that site are really pulling your abdominal muscles together after being stretched apart to accomodate the removal of the stomach. My doc explained it in great gory detail, but that's the gist of it.

I had a hiatal hernia repair and my gall bladder removed. My doc told me that my heart burn would be WORSE for a couple of weeks because of the repair, and was it ever. All day and all night it burned. Luckily, just as he said, it has gone away and been minimal. Yeah! There wasn't any additional pain for me and my recovery went well.
Good luck!

I didn't know I had a hiatal hernia until it was fixed & I woke up! I really didn't have a lot of pain just pressure from the gas. Best wishes!
