Calling Dr. What's Up.

I put a call into my surgeon's office. I had my sleeve surgery on May 2nd. No problems at all. Obeying all the rules no cheats.

This week - I am having a hard time getting food in (seems I can't hold much) and I've started to throw up. So I'm going back to 2 shakes a day (hard to get in) and something very small for dinner.

What's up with this twist? Can a sleeve get smaller and you hold less? Waiting patiently for the doc to call me back.

Do you have any other symptoms?  Fever?  At 3 months out your stomach should be almost completely healed unless something else is going on.  You can see your PCP as well.

You can develop a stricture, but they should be able to get to the bottom of it, and if it is one- it can be corrected.. Good luck!

no other symptoms. Last week I had a respitory infection but all better now. Just heard back from doc and they said this is not normal and could be a stricture but that usually happens in smokers (I don't smoke). So their suggestion go back onto liquids for a few days and see how I feel. If still a problem make an appointment for next week.

I'm not sick when I throw up - just feeling full and blump up it comes. I thought maybe I ate too fast the first time but have been paying attention to slowing down since.

Guess I'll see how going back on liquids does and start over from there. Anyone have this problem? Advice?

Stricture would be my first guess, too.  And they can happen in anyone, not just smokers.  As long as you can drink, it's not an emergency.  Strictures are usually easy to fix.

It's also possible that you irritated your stomach eating too much, too fast, and it's just taking it awhile to settle down again.  Particularly if you were sick last week and maybe on medications.

Hope it's a simple answer and you feel better soon!

It does sound like it might be a stricture to me too; I'm glad you called your surgeon.

A stricture is caused by the surgical technique, according to my surgeon.  If the curvature is not just right, over time it can cause the remaining stomach to twist.

Other people that have posted here with strictures have had a dilitation procedure to provide relief.  Most have had good results with that.  Keep us posted.....
