My husband says "just exercise 2 hours a day and you'll lose weight" (as he walks on the treadmill and eats M&Ms at the same time). My father says "just drink the shakes and eat the amount you would eat after surgery WITHOUT having the surgery and you'll lose weight". " "Instead of eating a whole bowl of popcorn in 30 minutes, the surgery will just make you take 4 hours to eat the whole bowl of popcorn so what's the difference". My endocrinologist says "instead of eating bad things at night, can't you just eat carrots and celery?" I am so sick of people thinking THEY know how to lose weight and know what I should do to lose it. If everyone could do this, there wouldn't be an obesity problem in the world! It's not as easy as eating carrots and celery for the rest of my life people!!

Lol, maybe popcorn shouldn't be in your example.  That is a slider and you can eat just as much just as fast compared to preop.  (Don't try this newly sleeved folks!)

I think it is difficult for people who do not have weight issues to understand.  I know for me before surgery I was STARVING all the time and could easily eat more than my husband and still be hungry.  It was nearly impossible for me to limit the amount of food I ate because I was just so hungry.

After surgery, I still get hungry but its just not the same and I have much more control over my hunger.  Not to mention the fact that I simply cannot eat in volume with the sleeve.  Yes I eat protein first and try to make good choices but pre-surgery it simply would not have been possible for me to survive on what I eat now.

Good luck to you!

The same holds true for our opinions on this board right!  What works for me won't work for you.
Vsg affects everyone close, who we tell, "let in"..so take it for what it is. This isn't some scripted television show...where everyone says the right thing at the right moment.
Im in this for ME anyway....no one else. I do it ALONE, Im driven, I have focus, a vision of MY future. Somedays not so great...many more days that ARE....now!  VSG.
find ways to shut the "noise" out...the scream becomes a whisper if you want it to
