Update: Bad news
Hey Kevin,
Sorry that it's not been going well for you for a while. Glad they figured out the problem, though. You'll be back to eating sleeve friendly pretty darn soon.
I had my GB removed in the summer of 2010. Had no regrets. I ended up in the ER with a bad attack and I'd been thinking I'd just been having an increase in indigestion. HA! Mine was removed laporascopically and was out patient. I would recommend asking to be in patient. My pain was managed poorly. The meds were too mild and I had a lot of pain trying to move even the slightest bit and I'm pretty damn tough.
Don't wait, if possible. Your lifting will be restricted for a month or six weeks. Don't know how that will affect your classes. Sooner you get that blasted thing out the better off you'll be. Once it gets bad, it's itense as all get out.

Seems like this would be up to the doctors and not the fire department... if they clear you for work then that should be that.

Well the Fire Dept uses a local hospital for our clinic (when members get sick or injured) and their doctors say whether or not we are fit for duty. They take into consideration what our personal doc's say but they have the final say.
My surgeon said I was fit for duty 6 weeks post op .. however the Fire Dept docs wouldnt let me go back on duty for many months post op.

Relief from symptoms is instant! You may do better on your exam if you feel better...However if it is a practical, physical exam then you should wait. You`ve got to be cautious lifting etc. I had mine out with a single incision through my naval. It was a short n sweet outpatient procedure.
I hope you feel better after finding out what was wrong. :-)

Was told I had sludge! Truthfully, I think we all have some to a point!..They didn't seem to concerned... Have had some bad ass attacks, but, they wrote them off as GERD... Pain was sooooo bad I passed out!!!!...I must say though..In the 2 years they upped the meds. I haven't had an attack!....
Well wishes!!!!.....It may be easier surgery!! But, how well is your mind after anaesthectic?
