Starting to think I got the wrong surgery...

You will get there...but your body is adjusting at its own rate...it works on a different schedule than you!

You went through major surgery and huge changes in your eating as well as having lost 30+ lbs in a month or so.  Even though some was pre-op, it's still a lot of weight in a very short time.  The fact that you have come down on the amount shows you it will happen.

Dont stress yourself out... You will be free of the meds when your body can sustain on its own.

Things certainly can continue to improve. I know that it can be disheartening when things don't go like we'd like. However, try not to let it discourage you in a way that interferes with any progress.
Your vent has been accepted. Feel free to continue on your journey.

Best Wishes for continued success.

Vent away, diabetes sucks.
RNY can put it in remission, at a slightly higher rate than VSG.. however, if you really find you need the big guns, the DS has a more permanent resolution rate for diabetes than either.. as the VSG and RNY do see it return for a good number of folks post-op. I will never down play the dangers of diabetes, so if you ever consider a revision, please only consider the DS?

Well if it comes to that that would be my choice... I am giving my body the benefit of my doubt and see what happens after a few months down the road... I have had diabetes since 1996 and I am so done with it... It sure would be nice to see it go away!!!

I had my surgery a day after you.  Just the fact that you have already reduced your meds is a good sign.  My doctor just took me off my BP med yesterday.  Your weight loss is amazing!  I'm 10 pounds behind you, so don't worry that your insulin is slowing down your weight loss.

Are you exercising?  If not yet, you should be cleared shortly and that should help your weight loss.  I should be cleared on my next visit on Monday, so I'm looking forward to it.  Now, if I could just get rid of this bronchitis.....

Hi.. Thanks for your reply... Its nice to know I'm not alone... Thats awesome that you were able to get off your BP meds. I hope I can soon. I am walking but not much these last couple weeks because I caught a nasty bug and have been sick. Chest congestion and sinuses... I hope you get better soon. No fun being sick... I will be exercising at my local gym as soon as i'm cleared... Good luck on your continued journey!

I noticed you said you've had diabetes since 1996 - can I throw in my two cents? As I've mentioned a couple times on this board, I am heavily involved in my local diabetes association (mostly with juvenile diabetics) and when my blood sugar levels started to hit diabetes range, I ran straight for surgery. That being said - I know all the facts and figures inside and out and regularly work with people who have had or are making the decision to have surgery. We often see people who have developed diabetes within the past 5 years are the ones who wake up not needing meds so to speak. If you've been diabetic for more than 5 years, it can sometimes take 6 months or more to see the same results. That you've been 15 years and are already reducing meds 4 weeks out is FANTASTIC!!!!!! Pat yourself on the back and keep working the program. It's going to take your body a little longer, but it looks like you're getting there.

Vent away ! I have two "same day" surgery friends... both diabetic... we are all almost 6 months out. One was off all meds, including insulin by 6 weeks and the other has been a VERY slow taper... they are both similar starting stats... it is just the way it is. Do not regret the decision. I think things would be similar with regard to meds with RNY and you would have the "rerouted intestines" you tried to avoid. It will work out in the end if you just keep plugging along. Keep venting as needed :)

Congratulations on your 11 lb weight loss in 4 weeks. I lost about that much in 4 weeks and I didn't have the insulin factor to deal with, so you are doing GREAT!!! I was also a lightweight, so we lose at a slower, but consistent rate. I think that as your weight gets lower, your need for insulin will begin to decrease. Give it some time, before you get totally discouraged and think that the surgery was a failure for your needs. Give yourself some more time and then evaluate your progress. Your need for insulin may gradually decrease, as it already has done. One day at a time. When you can start exercising, that will also decrease your need for insulin.
