I am  10 days post op ,still on liquid diet for another few 4 days;  I get all my fluids in and protien in...  any thoughts but I noticed my skin extremely dry.   I have pscorisis so dry skin has always been an issue but usally lotioning up in the am has always helped it.  my cuticles , feet ,legs and hands feel really dry..... any thoughts

When you say you are getting your fluids in, how much are you getting? If it's 64 oz, and you're getting those in with no problem, my suggestion would be to up that as much as possible. Many nuts recommend a half an ounce per pound of body weight for proper hydration. At 163 pounds, I seem to do best at 80-100 oz a day depending on how vigorously I exercise each day.

Also, keep in mind that since we are losing so quickly, hormonal changes might be causing us to have changes in skin as well. My face gets dry now much easier than it used to.

Sounds like it's hormonal then.  If that's the case, it should improve eventually.

Your body has just been through MAJOR surgery. More than likely, your body is focused on healing the insult it has just endured and is putting a lot of energy (protein building blocks) into healing. I didn't get dry skin. My body decided to stop producing heat and I froze my ass off for months. (Okay, I still get cold pretty easily....) Sounds like your body is just not focusing on regenerating nice, lanolin rich skin right now. Don't worry, once you've healed your body will get back to normal. My doc said it really takes a good 12 weeks for your body to be back on track.

Do you have your gallbladder?  liver problems?

Some ideas off the top of my head...

topical...can't go wrong with coconut oil. About $5 for a tub of organic at Walmart.  A little goes a long way. its the best no chemical, no perservative moisturizer I have ever found. I use it on my face! its great...not only for cookin ya know ,-)  before bed! let it work while yer at rest

ACV.... ..you'll smell...like a douche..lol before bed ...and hopefully when yer honey.. ain't feelin frisky lol

Supplements!
..a multi-strain PROBIOTIC  capsule form  with as high a count as many strains as you can find.
Ive been doin real good w/ Dr. Murrays 12/12  for over a year now!... Cheaper online..amazon...check health food stores..Vitamin Cottage, Vitamin Shoppe ..
Do 2 maybe a night for a few nights then the one every night thereafter. They're good bugs ya won't overdose  ...good guys...ya know the important ones killed off when ya had VSG  ...even tho we consume bad bugs everyday....we can never replace the good ones lost w/ yogurt alone.

Fish oil/krill oil....essential fatty acids...krill oil is small. Can get EPA/DHA in liquid form too.
If fish oil...always take with food.

Check your Vit. D3  (cholecalciferol) required supplementing. Vit D3 is small

Collagen....Neocell Collagen w/ Vit C.  works wonders for dry skin issues  ..Can chew em! kinda a soft nutty taste. Can get it at Costco, ^^other places mentioned

If yer makin your protein supps w/ milk...switch it out to water

iow...alkalinize yer body...milk is acid forming. Our diet is acid forming...eggs meat artificial sugars!

A couplea tbs of ACV in water everyday will help there too! Lots of green teas, stevia as sweetner vs artificial sugars

Its tough to be healthy with the types of foods we gotta eat post VSG. All artifical sugars..high protein meats...acid forming foods!  (whey protein supps are alkaline..thank goodness! ...do the best ya can tho Lisa... help yer immune system out ,-)

I am still on my liquid post op diet, .which mainly consist of protien drinks ,soup and crystal light or plain water,,,,,, my gall bladder  was  removed a long time ago,  liver is AOK   ,  I take Vit D , B complex,b 12,  iron,  regular vitamins x 2 & calcium x 2

now when they did all my blood test before surgery   my Vit D was  a little low ,  but its been an ongoing issue for years with me and I have been  taking suppliments  ....  could that be the issue you think?  maybe I need to up it more?

I will try some Probiotic, collagen and some fish oil....  I take  so many suppliments right now a few more wont hurt..... lol

My skin was extremely dry after surgery.  It hink it's a combination of dehydration, rapid water loss, and the cleanser you use before surgery.

It does get better after a couple of weeks.  However, I still get very itchy.  That's usually my sign that I need to up my water.

I am in the approval stages (so not on a liquid diet), but also have psoriasis--I find that when my fluid intake isn't enough, if I had a little healthy fat (fish oil, peanut butter, etc) it really does wonders for the skin...keep in mind that the stress of the surgery may be affecting your skin as well...stress is by far my biggest trigger for psorasis...
