What is it about eggs?

I'm 12 weeks out and can handle most things I try, but eggs just don't work. We went out for lunch yesterday and there was a breakfast burrito with fresh fruit option. I figured, ok, peel off the white tortilla, eat the eggs with beans and salsa, nibble the fruit - all good. Um, not so much. 1/2 a strawberry - check, 3 grapes - check, 3 small bites of egg - ow...

I brought the rest (most) of my meal home and have warmed up and tried to eat the egg part twice. 2-3 bites seems to be it before I need to take a 3-4 break from eating anything at all. (great for keeping calories down, not so great for getting in my protein) The dogs just finished it - I'm so done with eggs.

So - what is it about eggs? I read about people having hard boiled eggs on hand for snacks and it sounds so smart, but...

PS. No, I'm not just a masochist. My surgeon's plan says that if a food doesn't sit well, try it again in a week or so. I've been doing just that with eggs ever since I was cleared for solids 8 weeks ago.

So I am not the only one!! LOL. I have tried eggs multiple times, cooked multiple ways. They do not sit well at all. I actually get the slimies and throw up. So...no eggs for me.

Thank you! I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I've read so many stories about the joys of cheese topped eggs and I know they're healthy as all heck, but Fred doesn't seem to have got the memo.

I bought one of those countertop cupcake makers (What can I say? It's pink!) with plans to use it primarily to make myself "convenience food" like high protein muffins and Eggface's egg bites. I HAVE made perfect little flax muffins, which is quite fun, and plan to make some high protein banana muffins tonight (58 calories, 7g protein) but would really, really love to play with the whole egg thing.

I guess I'll try again in a few weeks.

I could always eat eggs, but sometimes they'd just sit funny.  Stayed down and all, just didn't feel quite right.  Now, when I scramble them, I add just a touch of Greek yogurt (probably any yogurt would do, but Greek is all I have).  I don't know what it does, but it adds a great flavor and the eggs to down like butter!

One thing I have lots of is Greek yogurt! I'll give it a shot - tomorrow. I'm already way behind because of the bit of egg I had at lunch time. I think I'm stuck with a protein drink for supper tonight - it's the only way I can get that much protein in in a short time. Ah well...

I sure hope this doesn't happen to me. I adore eggs....

Oddly enough, I can eat a hard-boiled egg or one that is "fried" in a non-stick pan until the yolk is firm, but I cannot stomach scrambled eggs, which used to be a favorite.  I keep trying, but after 14 weeks, I still can't do it.

I can eat them IN things like my flax muffins or cottage cheese pancakes, but scrambled or hard cooked is totally a no-go so far. I'm going to try emelar's Greek yogurt trick tomorrow and see if it helps. I'd really like to be able to eat eggs.

Presurgery I loved eggs. I could eat four scrambled in one sitting.

Post-surgery I can't tolerate them. I told my NUT and she said to wait a couple of weeks and try just egg whites.

So far eggs are the only thing I can't tolerate (not that I've tried many foods since surgery-- I'm only 4 weeks out).

I had trouble the first 3-4 months post op anytime I tried eggs. Not sure why but it was the only food I felt like I just could not eat well. I kept trying every few weeks and finally probably around the time my sleeve was fully healed is when I could tolerate them. Now I will make a breakfast ommelette or scrambled eggs at least once a week and have no trouble at all. Hopefully the same will be true for you...just wait a few weeks and try again. I'd say after 6 months if you still are having trouble then maybe they just aren't going to work for you post-sleeve. Good luck!
