Low carb/calorie options at Starbucks??
VSG on 08/07/12
What does everyone order at Starbucks? I'd like to have a treat a couple of times a week that I don't have to feel guilty about. Feedback appreciated...Happy Hump Day, sleevers!!

I love to get their unsweetened iced coffee. If you order it the regular way, they put sugar in it so ask for sugar free syrup &/or artifical sweetener. I also order mine with nonfat milk.
Here is the breakdown for a Venti:
Fat: 0
Carbs: 7.5grams
Protein: 5 grams
Calories: 56
I usually eat low carb and still manage to keep my daily carb grams between 20-30. If I'm at work, I order a Starbucks without nonfat milk & then use my unsweetened almond milk.

Well then you know a more than a LOT of surgeons!
Weight loss surgery patients can hold only small amounts of fluids in their stomach pouches, so they must sip water frequently throughout the day to prevent dehydration. Since caffeine has a diuretic effect, meaning that it causes water loss through excess urination, weight loss surgery patients must avoid it for at least the first few months after surgery, according to the University of Michigan. Dehydration increases the risk of developing kidney stones after weight loss surgery.
Since MOST surgeons says don't....I pass along this for success.......

Actually, did I say it was my opinion over a surgeon's? No. I posted something that many in the medical community have stated to be a fact. My surgeon (and MANY others) have learned that coffee does have a correlation to stomach acid issues, not so much dehydration. The idea is to wait and then "test the waters" to see if a problem occurs. Many nutritionists concur.
Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers, but it is a myth that commonly leads people down the wrong idea about coffee.
Also, we don't have a pouch, we have a functioning, albeit smaller stomach. Our pyloric valve allows for the fluid to flow through much faster than food.

Look it up - a LOT of practices....inclusing MAJOR ones here in NYC, Cleveland Clinic, and John Hopkins (senters of excellence and front-runners in reach and education) still stick with no caffeine....
If you want success, I suggest following the leaders....do a google search....MANY MANY other practices also follow this guidelines....
I haven't (as of yet) met one surgeon who says it's a myth......

You need to get out more then. And I have looked it up on my own. I too can throw out big names: Mayo Clinic, UCI, Stanford. The original study that led to caffiene being declared a diuretic was back in 1928.
Each person should be free to follow the advice of their surgeon without people spouting 90+ year old myths. Most modern bariatric programs have a reason for not allowing caffiene at certain stages, but not the one you are espousing.
I am sorry you are sooooo upset that someone dared to disagree with you. Have a good day and path on your journey.
