Pain /Burn in stomach Help!!!
Being a veteran of complications, it's fresh in my head that the risk of a leak is the worst in months 3-6. If your doc had you off of your prilosec, you also may have an irritation or even an ulcer.
Think positive. It's probably just gas. But, you shouldn't take abdominal pain lightly.
call your doc or if it's really bad, go to the ER .

I think you got something confused, it's exceedingly rare to diagnose leaks much past the 6-8 week mark. Most all leaks are surgical error and are present from the get-go, and are found within 7 days. The rest are found within the first 4-6wks when swelling subsides and the staple line starts leaking.. By mo 3-6, the stomach is fully healed.. no real risk of a new leak starting up out of the blue..
To the OP: get into your Dr. You may need to stay on your PPI for the near or long-term future.. Don't mess around with Tums (take them until you get into the Dr, or Gaviscon) but talk to your Dr about this one.. You may likely have acid issues still that need medication.

Are you back on your PPI? Did you get an appt with your Dr? Yes, it is bad to have an ulcer- for anyone, but you may not have one, just acid pain.. You need to find out that from your Dr though.
BTW, Gaviscon Extra Strength liquid always worked much better for me than TUMS. May want to try it in the mean-time.
I will not be able to stop my PPI dose, as I still have reflux post op. I've been on it almost 10 years, nothing has changed with surgery. If you had reflux before, you may still have it after the weight loss too.

My surgery was June 4. I didn't have any problems with pain until the first week of August. I had started taking pain meds for a back ache and a hair, nail and skin vitamin. I started experiencing painful spasms in my stomach. It went on for about a week and then slowly went away. Just to be cautious, I stopped the pain med. Then the last week of August it came back with a vengence. I stopped the hair, nail and skin vitamin. I haven't had an episode since. I think it was the vitamin. My point is, maybe it is something you are taking. I went back on my Prilosec too. So far, so good. If you feel you need the antacid, take it.
