Three Months Out and What A Great Ride It's Been!!

Buon Giorno OH Friends

Today is my 3 month "Surgy" and I couldn't be happier!  I saw my surgeon yesterday for my 3 months check-up and he laughed again at my weight loss.  This time I didn't get all frazzled because he laughed at my 1 month check-up, too.  Apparently, seeing his patients lose weight makes him happy!   I got another hug!  It was nice to hear him say that I was doing exceptionally well -- then he added "for a woman your age" LOL  I'll take it, though!  For the record, I have officially lost 46 pounds and 41 inches.

Wednesday, I saw my Nephrologist -- for those of you who didn't see my post on MFP, my kidney doctor is HOT HOT HOT -- an Adonis and as I said, gives me the jibbering fidgets just being around him!!!  OMG.......I'm too old for this stuff LOL  (No I'm not!!!  Hahahaha)  Anyway, we talked about the surgery and the high protein intake.  Even though my kidney disease is not Type II Diabetes related (I have "senile" kidneys -- they are aging faster than normal), he said that the high protein intake is fine as long as the Type II is under tight control, that I avoid beef and pork, that I continue to lose weight, and that I slam down as many ounces of fluids as I can each day.  AND..........this almost broke my heart -- he wants me to eat the protein as poultry, finny fish and shellfish!!!!  For the sarcasm impaired, that "broke my heart" comment is a big NOT NOT NOT!!!  I love fish of all kinds!  He also recommends plenty of eggs and cheese.........YUM   I pass this info along so others with CKD can see that our plans with all this protein can work fine and we don't have to worry too much.  Of course, it's imperative that we keep good track of our kidney function numbers, too.

I was a little unhappy that my loss has been so slow over the last 6 weeks or so, but when I look at an average of 15 pounds a month, it doesn't seem too bad.  All the reading I've done about how when we lose slowly, we are probably losing inches, seems to be the case as I lost an additional 13 inches from my 2 month measuring.

I'm waiting to get my latest lab results -- the vampires at the hospital took 12 vials of blood. yesterday  For now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get confirmation that the Type II is in complete remission.........the A1c test will tell us that........and that my kidney function numbers are as good or better than they were 3 weeks out from surgery.

NSVs are small compared to so many I've read, but they sure help when the scale is being recalcitrant!  Bending over to tie my shoes is easy now.  Exercising is FUN (did I really type that out loud???).  The arthritis in my back isn't quite as painful -- YIPPPEEEEEE!!!  I haven't had to use my walker in over 2 months!  I don't get winded doing normal activities.  Little things make a big difference sometimes!   One NSV I'm waiting for is to be able to wear my one and only pair of jeans.  I never wore jeans much, but this pair I love.  Pre-op, I couldn't get them over my tuchas.  Now, I can get them over it and pulled fully on -- can't button or zip yet, but there's progress!

The incredible support and encouragement from here and MFP have helped me so much.  I thank all of you who have been there for me.  With no support here at home, it means an awful lot.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

I love Myrtle -- she's a very good sleeve!  We treat each other well.  And I have to mention -- I have not even once eaten off plan.  Not that I haven't been tempted, but I don't want to fail and I fear that slippery slope..............for now, it's easy most of the time -- I'm still in that goofy euphoric state of mind that comes with a new sleeve.

This is a wonderful day for me..............I wish for all of you the same and a wish for your weekend to be filled with Peace, Love, and Joy!

Ree
