the protein drinks are really making me feel ill, and I'm suppose to have them 3x per day. I've tried different flavors and brands and have tried slowing down how quickly i drink them. I'm only 9 days out now and have to drink them until oct 15th! Last night i felt so sick i didn't drink one and just had chicken broth which i felt totally fine. I'm still staying positive though!! They did give me anti-nausea meds (which I guess I'll have to start taking). guess i'm just venting and seeing if anyone else experienced this too??? thanks....

Sorry you're feeling this way. Do try using the meds that might help you. Did you try unflavored you can mix with sf crystal light or gatorade, soup, etc. I'm sure more posters will chime in with other idea's.

Have you looked into protein soups?    I'm not sure if you can get them at GNC or VItamin shop but I do know you can get them on the internet and I've tried them and they are VERY GOOD.    I am 7 yrs. post op and still do protein drinks and protein soups.   Good luck to you.   You might also try putting not quite as much protein powder at one time in the shakes and see if that helps with the nausea.    Good luck to you.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Okay, girlfriend! I have been in your shoes!! I feel your pain. I couldn't drink anything bu****er (unflavored and very cold). I couldn't even take the nausea meds for throwing them back up (tmi)!

I was sick the whole first month. I couldn't get much down. I HATED the taste of ALL of the protein shakes, that is, until I found Unjury (chocolate splendor). I wish I had found it sooner. I did what I could and suffered. I had a friend on here tell me to treat the shakes like medicine. So I took my medicine, as much as I could stand. I upgraded to the next levels on my plan as soon as I could. I began eating egg beaters (low in fat) about a month or so out to help my protein intake.

I did not really start getting my 80g of protein in until I found Unjury. If you like chocolate milk, you will probably like it. Mixed with 8 oz skim milk, it is about 28g protein per shake and NO fat.  It is the only one I cannot taste the protein in. I also like muscle milk graham cracker powder, bu****ch your calories and fat intake with that one.

Get your protein and vitamins in now, or you will start losing your hair like me. Every shower, I clog the drain. Wi**** would fall off my legs instead of my head!!

Lots of luck to you girl. Like I said, I feel your pain.

Hi

I felt as sick as a dog when I drank the protein shake for the first 2 weeks. At the end of the day I would just make one shake with half a scoop and loads of water and sip on it only every now and then.I mostly did broth and tea that felt gr8.I also got a massive headache and felt super tired every time I had a shake.

You just need to get through the first 2 weeks to the best of your ability. My dr did say that some people have a reaction to the protein shake and to not worry about them too much.

Drink what you can.Rest and heal. Before you know it you'll be able to tolerate it.

My sister who is on the pre-op diet right now, has been going through the same thing. Her dietician told her to substitute the protein drinks for the Breakfast Carnation drinks. Those feel a ton better on her stomach. And they don't taste bad either!! (I tasted it) You should try it!
